So I thought I'd put up a quick list of the known turbo kits that are available for purchase from new just so people would have something to read and dream about...

 m http://turbokits.com/Toyota/MR2_Spyder/ ... o_Kit/942/ m
& 350 BHP version for the nutters
 m http://turbokits.com/Toyota/MR2_Spyder/Power_Packages/ m

PowerEnterpirse (4495 Euros) or $4830 from the US (possibly no longer available)
£3100 from RHD Japan and £188 DHL delivered apparently! + taxes will take you to £3700
 m http://www.rhdjapan.com/power-enterpris ... zzw30.html m
 m http://www.japspeed.com/index.php?page=product&info=897 m
 m http://power-enterprise.co.jp/english/turbo/mrs_tb.htm m

Supercharger Kit apparently $5900
 m http://www.power-enterprise.co.jp/rotre ... t-usa.html m

They do a supercharger kit (Rotrex) for the 1ZZ in the Celica for £4700.. I'm sure it's within their skillset to do this for he MR2

And below we have the list of turbo kits that are no longer available as far as I can tell:
Silverstone Performance
Whifbitz (temporarily unavailable due to sourcing new manufacturer of manifolds)
C2
HASS
TTE
Apexi
Thor
Top Secret

Please add to the list if you have other info as well? It should make a good read!

The whiffbits kit is only temporarily unavailable due to supply issues with the manifold.
I spoke with them not so long back

The power enterprise kit I'm not if it is still available as the query emails I have sent have bounced back

Seven motorsport do a 1zz rotrex kit which i am sure could be adapted for the roadster.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Ah - ok.. well I can move it to the unavailable section.. Kinda hoped that since it was available from more than one shop that there'd be at least one set kicking about!

Just realised I'd forgotton about the MWR kits!

Thing is john not sure some of these kits are better value than sorting it yourself.
Especially with import duty vat shipping and the awful exchange rate.

Oh I totally agree with you with respect to the current exchange rate etc.. I guess the point of this is to simply show what is out there possibly as a point of reference?

Got a colleague who is regularly travelling to and from the states, so as long as it's suitcase sized it'd hopefully deal with the shipping!

I would say that there is a fair proportion of the population that doesn't have the skillset (yet) to build their own turbo kit - so the possibility of side stepping the learning curve might be attractive for some!

ok how about I start a "build your own turbo" thread! The idea being to save cash, and the rules are that the components need to be bought new (where possible) and known estimates and sources for fabrication  where needed?

Top Secret did a turbo kit, but only seen the one.
Rotrex is a centrifugal supercharger, not a turbo, just for info.
No Roadster any more, Golf 7.5 GTi Performance

I think i assumed people knew that. I dont know why.
Tbh its still forced induction and is a good option especially for the 2zz.

Just for info. I'm looking forward to watching part 4 of the Mighty Car Mods mini-series on supercharger vs turbo (Youtube).

Worth a watch, even if it's being done on that other roadster with the engine in the wrong place.

They've taken identically built MX Fives, same wheels, tyres, suspension, engine, brakes & built one with a supercharger & the other with a turbo. The turbo is making an extra 10hp at the dyno but I think the latest will be testing them on the street or track against one another. Should be interesting.

Love mighty car mods!

BTW Found that RHD Japan do the PE kit for £3100 and will DHL it to you for £188! that's what it's currently telling me anyway...

plus vat at 20% and duty at 2.5 % minimum. Call it £3700.

Just to let you know, I received an email from whifbitz saying they will no longer be doing their turbo kit from now on. Which is a pain as I now want a turbo but none around in my budget :@

when I watched that I was a little annoyed they didn't put them to the same power, ( I know it was a psi-psi comparison) isn't there something called parasitic loss with superchargers? I dunno I'm just a lowly mortal.....
I like it sideways!!

Just to throw some new info into light.

I'm going turbo before this summer. Hopefully even get to ding day with boost :).
I've been speaking to Paul at whiffbitz and he says that although they aren't making it at the moment. If I were to leave my car with them for about 4 weeks he could make the kit again. The cost would be around £2600.
I'm currently trying to choose between this and the black label kit. But that discussion is for another thread :).

@dan944 how is the boost-plan going? still going ahead with it? what are you likely to go for? any idea on prices yet?

was that WhiffBitz price including an ECU + tune? I think they used to charge ~£2500, but the ECU they recommended was another £800.... and that was just to get a limp-home map on it...
Black 2006: AC & heated leather: 4x Megillian braces, Koni/Tein custom suspension, MTEC+YS+braided brakes, Toyosports manifold, TTE exhaust, Conti PremiumContact2(summer)/ Conti TS860S(winter) / YokoAD08RS (track/summer), Pioneer MVH-390BT + TS-E171ci, FBSW, Robbins mohair hood.

So I've made my own kit. From advice on here and having a read about, if you buy a kit you effectively pay someone else to put the kit together for you.
There's a full list of everything I bought and all the prices etc on the DIY turbo parts sourcing thread.
The only thing not listed is ECU. I'm currently running an emanage ultimate but will be getting the EMU black before the year is out.
Mapping myself at the moment also so running a lowly 5psi which is still pretty quick in these cars I must admit. Hopefully going to up that to 7psi this weekend.
One thing I will say about my build is that it's not the cheapest. I bought all mine in a month and tended towards some of the better parts. My only regret is not getting a charge cooler.

Edit. Here's the thread.
