Right guys! Need some advice...

Looking to get an exhaust system in the next couple of weeks but not 100% sure what to go for   s:?: :?: s:?:

Been looking at the Cobra quad pipe as seems to be the most popular and easiest to get

Main preference for me is the sound and not worried about being too loud etc.. would like to get one for under £500

What do you guys have or what would you recommend?   s:D :D s:D

...and while you're looking at that, are you doing the manifold too? I'm guessing it'll blow the £500 budget then, but I'm looking at the same, but more with a view to sorting out the exhaust gas airflow entirely (exhaust manifold & back)...

My preference was something close to the TTE dual pipe / something that would pass for that at a glance (e.g. Powerflow dual tip - the wide-spaced one, not the two centre pipes), just my feeling, but I've always thought that 4 exhaust tips should be reserved for cars with more than 4 cylinders...
Black 2006: AC & heated leather: 4x Megillian braces, Koni/Tein custom suspension, MTEC+YS+braided brakes, Toyosports manifold, TTE exhaust, Conti PremiumContact2(summer)/ Conti TS860S(winter) / YokoAD08RS (track/summer), Pioneer MVH-390BT + TS-E171ci, FBSW, Robbins mohair hood.

I'm just doing the cat back for now but manifold is one of the next things on my list (a list that seems to be growing by the day)

I like the dual pipe look, fox do quote a nice dual pipe one on dc performance for under £400.
I'd usually agree but I've actually just bought the cobra quad   s:lol:  s:lol:
I like the look of the cobra especially on chilli red and from any clips I've seen it sounds one of the sportiest so hopefully should arrive soon and can get it all fitted for my first real mod

I thought about that, but figured best to just get the whole lot done while the back is off - seems unfair to the new exhaust if it's restricted in the manifold before that...

It does look nice, but I'm going for subtle and fairly close to OEM looks-wise... quad pipes are fine if you're running a 250bhp+ track car with a cage, etc... I'm not - I'm only planning a few tweaks this year... and then decide on what I'm doing in terms of a track car (i.e. this one vs a new car).

I'm guessing this is the one you're referring to:  m https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/8 ... 5-071.html m

That is the right look that I'm after: 2 x 90mm exhaust tips is plenty....

Only concern is what happens before those tips (i.e. EVERYTHING  s:) :) s:)  ) - the internal diameter on the pipework is 55mm (2")... I think I'm going to try for 2.5", if I can find something that allows for that: I think if I end up getting a s'charger for it, then I THINK that 2.5" is recommended...

The Cobra looks interesting - the dual pipe is 2.25"....  m https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performa ... l-tailpipe m  £460, so only £60 extra... I still need to see what works with the Zero Manifold...

From previous experience if going forced induction a proper custom exhaust is the way to go.
Both cobra and TTE have be shown to limit turbo power.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Haha that's fair enough! I've got a few things planned this year so hopefully by summer time the exhaust will look more in tune with the rest of the car.

From what I've seen the Cobra has good reviews all-round, there's not so much on the fox but then as you say it is a wee bit cheaper... Keep an eye out on ebay though, there was a sale on the Cobra ones down to £410 but I just missed it! Ended up getting mine from MR2-BEN with a cat/back box gasket and postage to the highlands for
just under £500 so I was pretty content with that   s:) :) s:)

I did send out to Powerflow and MIJ to try and price up a custom built one. Never had anything back from Powerflow and MIJ were a little out my price range, plus I'd need to go half way across the country to get it fitted so decided just to go for the Cobra.

No big engine mods planned for this year anyway so shouldn't be too much of a problem there!

Safe to say, I'm learning one thing the MR2 doesn't handle so well is snow   s:lol:  s:lol:

Hit a milestone a couple of days ago...

Unfortunately wasn't paying attention and missed the 100,000 mark but still a milestone none the less!

Also de-badged the rear today

Think it looks a bit tidier now, got a TRD badge to go on the right which should finish it off, just need this rain to clear so I can get it on.

Was hoping for an MR-S badge as I like the look of them but £43 from the US for one or £5 for the TRD one was a no-brainer...

Exhaust install will be happening on the 14th so will get pictures and sound clips to hopefully show the difference.

Also might be making an cold-air intake to go behind the battery as I see that's a fairly common cheap mod.

Should be a good month   s:D :D s:D

Big day today, fitted the Cobra exhaust AND homemade RAM induction kit

Before:

After:

All went smoothly enough however the exhaust is a pain in the ass to get right and we had to use oxy acetylene to bend the rods and pipes to sit evenly otherwise the right sat around 2 inches lower than the left.

Home made RAM filter kit went very smoothly. Cut the MAF housing out of the original air box and cut down the silicone hose to size then clamped on the Air filter and it slotted straight on to the throttle body behind the battery, great cheap mod and only cost £40 all in!

What a difference in sound now! I think the Cobra sounds fantastic and is loud how I like it. Cold air intake also makes it sound a lot more throaty in the higher revs. Night and day to how it sounded before.

Here's a link for anyone who wants to hear the difference in sound (ignoring rattly heat shield in first vid), I'm also going to try upload some clips to Youtube later so will post a link for this.
