[GI] ECUMaster Black Standalone ECU Group Buy
February 02, 2018, 04:45:12 PM »
@mikek started a post on the temporary forum but as it turns out it's a nightmare trying to move stuff over so... manual it is!

I have just managed to get a possible group buy deal on the 2zz specific ecumaster black. This is a tentative post to see who may be interested. I don't have the full details yet but it will be for the unit fitted and mapped for under £1000.

They developed the unit for the 2zz lotuses and are mainly being used in race cars. They are confident they can get everything to run from their unit including the dash.

Please post below if you are interested. I need 5 people to make it viable

Thanks

That's good.
The bare unit itself is 700+ quid so fitting mapping and harness for less than 300.
Of course you would want wideband egt and other sensors to really make the most of it especially on a boosted application.

It's got to be the most fully featured ECU at the price.
Comparable to the link fury which is 1500 just for the ECU.
I asked if it could involve turbo or 1zz as well:

1zz turbo? Or am I being greedy?

Shouldn't matter should it.
Pay extra for a boost solenoid AFR and EGT senors.
The maps will be custom.
They may have a map from a 1zz Elise to start them off if they are used to lotus cars.

If they are happy to have a go at supercharged 1mz then I will provisionally put my name down.
Anybody thinking about going for a fully featured standalone ECU should do the same.

RRR was the first website I saw advertising ECUmaster so I would think they know what they are doing with it.

If anyone is interested in one of these for a V6 application then say so.
I am tempted.
They make custom harnesses anyway.

1zz is definitely included in the group buy. They already have a variety of maps.

1mz is not confirmed yet but I'm working on it.

We need 5 to make it happen. They are using emu black + harness for the deal.
2zz by Rogue. Se7en cams. BMC CDA. Competion clutches lightened flywheel, Megillian Racing Exhaust. TRD sportivo suspension and ARB\'s. TRD braces. TRD quick shift. TRD dash kit, Matts brace. Getting there but not sure when it will stop!

I'm a conservative yes on this deal.
Got the money waiting, just still waiting for this other damn outfit to come back with costs!

It'd be for the turbo.

Just trying to get a few more questions answered such as eml concerns and v6 etc then I will post up how to pay and book in. Looks like we should get 5 no problem.

Great product great price 5 should be easy.
Re V6 I wouldn't expect them to map it for that price they won't have a base map probably never been near a 1mz.
Would be nice just to get a discount on the unit harness and fitting.

Any progress on this?

I've downloaded the EMU software and I have to say it looks pretty darn decent. Tons of safeties and I also found an EML light output and you can select what it should illuminate the EML for.

There are various output options for the tacho, maybe of them is compatible with the output of the dash ECU on the stock 2.

VVT-i control looks good with a (small) map where you can map VVT-i angle to rpm and load on multiple cams.
For 2zz you can have a separate map profile for "lift" or VTEC for those on k20.

Safeties on all sorts;
- tkming/fuel adjustment on knock and it had a stock engine noise profile you put in to help accurately detect knock.
- rpm limiter on excessive oil pressure, egt, iat boost, AFR,etc and also ignition cuts on these.
- limit rpm to X until coolant temp is Y...I like that a lot.
- traction control is simple but effective. You install a potentiometer on your dash to adjust sensitivity and it uses VSS and rpm to determine slip. On the slip tolerance it basically cuts ignition to lower torque. Simple and clever. Would be good if it has inputs from the ABS sensors though to help detect wheel by wheel slip.
- good gear by gear boost control with 16x16 map table for target boost to load/rpm
- overboost protection
- water meth and nitrous control
- all sorts of jazzy Motorsport features like flat shift (sweeeet), anti-lag...no thanks, launch control, pit limiter
- closed loop fueling adjustments via NBO or WBO sensors.
- target AFR maps
- all the compensations you'd expect for barometric pressure, temperature, etc
- quite nifty idle air control valve control, but I didn't see any input for A/C clutch triggering it though...that's worth asking about. Or any A/C controls for that matter.
- all the usual fueling strategies but clearly focussed on MAP (built in).
- internal Bosch LS4.2 wideband controller but it also accepts stock NBO and also external wideband input (5v)
- live tuning..duh..
- input from Bluetooth module for things like map switching.or a manual switch.

All in all it's a damn impressive piece of kit. the software is VERY user friendly. Absolutely crap easy. If you know what you're doing, you can work with this ECU even if you've never used it before.

Pretty sure it's as fully featured as anything out there at a similar value.
Also mate it supports the more recent Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor.
EMU classic uses the 4.2 controller.

I am glad you like the software.
It's not something that I see myself ever having a play with but it's nice to get an opinion of someone who isn't connected to the product.
I see myself getting this whatever happens with this group buy.
It's the stand out ECU ATM unless you want to fork out 2k+ for a Syvecs

Something like the traction control settings, shift light output, safety limiters are the kinds of things that are nice to be able to have easy access to. I can totally imagine you might want to tweak those settings (easy) after a few weeks of trying it out.

Also handy  maybe if something goes wrong to switch to a "valet" map to drive it safely to Patrick :)

I wouldn't touch anything around timing, injector settings, sensor settings etc etc. Things that should be done on a dyno.
But, it's also nice to be able to take it to any tuner and hand them the cable and off they go. So if you were to run into issues on, say, Highland drive, you're not stuck.

Here it is
Ecumaster black emu with adapter harness fitting and mapping for 1zz and 2zz £1000.

1mz not confirmed as Greg is in China fitting this to lotus race cars! The lady I've been talking to thinks 1mz will be fine might just cost a little more for mapping as they don't have any base maps or experience with this engine.

To book in and pay the deposit (£500) please email
charlottelouise@ecumaster.co.uk

Please quote MR2 group buy

I for one will be adding a few extras so best to discuss this before the fitting/mapping day.

Please can you let me know when you have booked so I can keep track of the numbers, we need 5 for the deal to happen.

I will see how much money I have left after insurance and fettling.
If I have a monkey spare I will put it down.
This is a great deal for any 1zz or 2zz. Even if you already have something else sell it on and buy this.
UNBEATABLE.

Mike

I still have some questions outstanding on the ECUMaster forum.

Do you anybody know more about the following before I put down the cash?:

- can it run the stock dash in full?
- EML on start up (on/off), what was the verdict on this?
- is this offer keeping in mind some parallel ECU running for the A/C control and immobilizer? Or is that bye bye immobilizer?
- does the deal include any wiring in of the lsu4.9 Bosch sensor and boost control solenoid?
- map switch is a biggie for me. Can that be done with a dial or switch?
- will they map turbo as part of the mapping deal or is that extra? Will they map each car or will just they just provide a base map?

What kind of time line are we talking about?

Cheers for arranging mate. Looking forward to it

Not gospel but I think it will run the AC and do multiple maps probably through the app if not via a switch.

Price is for mapping properly not just a base map. Drive in drive out, car sorted. Price doesn't include the wideband so that would be extra. All extras would be extra! I have been told it will run the dash in full. The eml can be programmed so I presume this will take care of the MOT issue. I presume the immobiliser will have to go as it does with all other standalones but I haven't asked the question.

Probably best to contact them and ask for a price for the extras you want. They have been very helpful so far and are really wanting to break into the toyota sector.

I think they are booked up untill mid March anyway. They haven't given me a time line /closing date. I just hope we get 5 soon so I can get mine done at this price!

Only problem is that the main man Greg is still in China and I think he deals with all the technical stuff and does the mapping. They will answer your questions though.

I am going to book mine in tomorrow so will let you know how it goes.

I have another question:
What would be the price with just base maps - 1zz turbo and NA, no fitting and no tuning? Im a bit far so cant get the car mapped and its still dyno time and so on.

Do we know if this deal is limited to install & mapping at RRRengineering only? Their dealer MK auto repairs & tuning in Blackburn would be a lot more convenient for us Northerners  :)

Ask your local dealer to price match.
Mikek has been dealing with RRR  not ECUmaster direct.

My gut feeling would be no.
These guys deal with Lotus a lot so are familiar with our engines.
Tbh for £1000 it's worth the travel.
It's not really that south either I live in SE London and it's a 2 hour drive for me.
The ECU and harness are 800 quid so fitting and mapping for 200 is an immense deal even if it cost £100 in petrol.

Even more than that! 729 for the ECU and 179 for a custom plug/play harness so essentially the mapping and fitting is free! It's insane.

Don't get me wrong,I'm going to have a little cry when we send the money over. But the tears will be dried by the wind in our face when we:re boosting back up the A1
