Hi, do these ecu plug-ins actually do what they claim?

shnazzle

Which ECUs and what do they claim?
...neutiquam erro.

Nitro, they claim as much as additional 15bph and just plug in. The add on will do everything in terms of maximising the power output without going outside the parameters if the engines tolerances. It sounds a bit suspect

Not quite that cheap but not a million miles away! Thing is though, the electronics involved aren't as complicated as most people think and the Chinese are very good at copying and reproducing for very little money!

Is there any decent plug-in-and play piggy backs available? You don't have to remap them? My car is fairly standard engine wise with just a K&N air filter and TTE exhaust fitted

No.
It wouldn't be worth it anyway IMHO.
Very little power to be made without going forced induction.
People spend thousands to gain 30bhp when a turbo or supercharger will gain you 100.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

See all of above.

I've got a piggyback and it's only of any use to satisfy my anal retentiveness to properly support my other minor mods.
Power output Vs expenditure is horrendous.

Go turbo, supercharger or engine swap. Save all your money otherwise for tyres, suspension, bracing and frequent servicing

This kind of thing, right? http://m.obd2shop.co.uk/wholesale/nitroobd2-performance-chip-tuning-box-for-benzine-cars.html
I doubt it can do any harm so why not give it a go at that price?

michaelb

So how hard is it to supercharge the engine? What other work needs done for It?

Have a search around this doesn't need to be covered again in a different thread.

Just another chancer putting together a fancy looking chip in a bid to fool people out of their money.

It worked...for them

Same shite different day.
We all know these little boxes do F all.

Call the midlife!

They work better with one of those little, electric turbo fans in your air intake hose...

They are awesome dude. :P
They create so much boost its amazing.
Why anyone bothers with a turbo I don't get.
And why are manufacturers installing them at the factory?
It's a conspiracy!

The frustration isn't aimed at you @michaelb but at yet another one of these magic performance boosters.

Have a gander through the Performance section to see what all can be done.
Or search for things like turbo, rotrex, engine swap,2zz conversion

It's ok Shnazzle, I can see when something isn't right, like the nitro thing! I was just curious what people thought! I'm a Doctor of engineering twice so I'm not new to these things! Lol I'm new to cars though, so any advice people have around what can add bhp, I happy to take! I have already read through the other feeds and I'm leaning more towards the 2zz engine instead of a turbo as I like the feel of a NA engine without any lag.

You're certainly in the right place for reference material, there's a wealth of information and opinion on every combination previously tried. And some groundbreaking pioneers!
Turbo lag aside the 2zz needs it's neck properly wringing to get the performance from it, I've never experienced it but I know many people find it hard work after a while for fast road use.
But each to their own, mine is pretty much standard apart from the basics like panel filter, exhaust manifold and aftermarket cat back and it's plenty powerful enough to get me in trouble on the twisties!

Glad you threw in the engineering brag rights actually...
Have a look through my posts and you'll see I'm always desperate for proper scientific/mathematical/engineering/logical backing behind things.

Some call it overthinking...some call it interest :)

I suppose I was just trying to point out that I'm not a complete idiot lol

There isn't anything wrong with over thinking when it comes to engineering! You can over think your golf swing however lol

I still have my 1zz Power FC standalone ECU with commander and FC HAKO for sale :)

Ah now that's a different story :)
A "chip" or piggyback is one thing but torque can definitely be freed up with a standalone
