I have just got back from France . And yes there did seam to be a lot of speed cameras. Driving back to our accommodation one night I got flashed. It must have been us as we appeared to be the only car on the road. I did not see the camera and I am positive I was going well under the speed limit. Just have to wait now and see what happens.

I did a trip to Tuscany last year, cost £2500.00 all told. My average fuel economy was 42mpg standard car no mods, thought it dropped to 31mpg on the Autobahn's. I highly recommend a high factor sun block and air conditioning.

Speed cameras are rife in this region on the big motorways into St Tropez. Unfortunately I know from experience. The limits are strict too. No 10%+2 here! 3-5mph over and tickets are issued. Some roads have rolling video cameras. You have been warned!

First 5 days sound amazing!! I think I'd have to double back after Mont Blanc and sling it back across the South of France (or double back through Germany)... that said, I still need to line up a family holiday for the kids first before I could consider this. Interested to see how this develops.

I assume once people start booking things, the details will go in here?

Simon designed it so people could hop in and out whenever they wanted. Kate and I will be doing the same as you.

Simon looks good but I have a few questions.

Are the prices given per room or per person? What happens if I travel on my own?

Are there any tolls to pay (I presume we are staying off the motorways)?

Can we hop off whenever we like? Monte carlo is a long way to get home from in a day so however much I would like to go I don't think I can realistically fit it in. Most probably we would think about splitting off in the mount blanc area. Would this be a problem?

Lastly... when are we going to have to confirm with you? (We are trying to move house at the moment so our finances are a little up in the air!!)

Hope I'm not being a pain as I think this could be a fantastic trip with some great people.

Thanks

Mike

Hi mikek (Mike)

1. All the prices for hotels are per double room. I may be able to get a slightly better price in some of the bigger hotels for single occupancy but the prices are pretty much rock bottom.

2. Tolls, one toll for sure going through the Monte Blanc Tunnel which is 43.50€ one way (2017 price)

If you're going around the Nurburgring that is classed as a toll road too (so insurance wise best to check and see if your company list it as a exclusion - some do, some don't, if not then your covered   s:D :D s:D

There may be some more tolls but I've not finished routing yet, but they will be kept to minimums.

3. Hop on / off wherever and whenever you like. I've designed the run for people to do just that, with the free use of mobile phone (at no more cost than your normal UK plan) in Europe now it will be easy to communicate stops and way-points for people joining and departing.
For you guys I'd think jumping off after the night's stay on the 29th Aug, Hotel Inn Design Moutiers €61.29 (+ 5€ For A Towel And Shower Kit !)
(Through the Mont Blanc Tunnel turn right and just in France) B&B Inc would be best.
Morning of the 30th we are 10 mins away from an Alpine Thermal Spa which I thought we'd visit for a couple of hours. cost (i think) about 15€ for 2 hours 39€ for half a day.

4. Confirming, please confirm as soon as possible for the ferry however we've got until Easter (ish) after then I can possibly squeeze someone in but it gets more difficult,
the rooms can be adjusted up to 14 days beforehand - but no guarantee of availability of more rooms. Currently we have 3 rooms free at each hotel booked to us, room allocation will be done as folk confirm.

Once people are confirmed I'll send out a confirmation PM with all my contact details.

I will be listing more info on excursions and tolls etc in the next few days.   s:D :D s:D

Hope that helps

Blessings Simon

Mike, if you are just doing the first week, it may be best for me to drive back with you as it doesnt look like I will be able to manage the whole thing.

Ideally though I would not just want to blast back on motorways but maybe retrace our steps a bit to make sure we enjoy the drive back too?

I have been trying to work out how far away we will be from the Stelvio too.....
