Hi has anybody had a mohair hood supplied and fitted from the soft top shop over in Stockport? Thinking of using em but just after a few opinions?

Cheers

Whilst not quite the answer to your question, Jack Smith is really good but in Swansea.  He does a roof for around £300 so bear that in mind (plus a tank of fuel) when considering the local options.

Others on this site have travelled far and wide to go to Swansea, I can recommend his work on my car
Today
2000 x reg pfl - blue - as original no mods
In the late 1980's
1982 x reg Toyota Corolla Liftback Coupe (also blue)
1978 s reg Mitsubishi Celeste Coupe (yellow)

I thought the Jack Smith price was £500 for Mohair? And that is for a mohair with a the rear glass reclaimed from another roof, so stiched into the lining.

I went for the Robbins on as fitted by Carhood Warehouse, which has the rear glass bonded in (seamless) and looks like it belongs even more than the original. I'll grab some photo's next time it gets a wash. That option is £800 though!

Jack Smith's is 310 ish.
And it's not real Mohair.
For the money hard to fault but if you want a show car finish then you are better off elsewhere.
Although you could source a top quality roof yourself and have them fit it.
I believe Bernie did that maybe?

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Is any of it REAL mohair (Angora wool)? I very quickly realised that most are have some sort of compound, possibly including Mohair as part of a blend. Mine looks and feels like Mohair on the top, but is multiple layers of material. So long as it isn't just textured acrylic :)

Got mine done at Monsoon very pleased it's from the States and is top notch,

Mohair is a collective term they aren't made from Mohair but better quality ones are Haartz twillfast, cheaper ones are stayfast

No disrespect to the JR Smith ones they are excellent value for money but I wanted Red and some I viewed weren't the right material, had questionable seam finish and poor fit around the rear screen that said it was 2 years ago now

The tops fitted by CarhoodWarehouse (£795!) are "manufactured by Robbins Auto Tops in the US.  It is made from Haartz stayfast mohair 100% acrylic cloth laminated to a black cotton backing.... comes with a lifetime guarantee on the bonding of the heated rear glass window."

Reviving this topic.

What are the best options currently for a new soft top? Installation would be locally in Hungary (by professional company), but I'd like to get a nice, decent top, probably in color other than black.

Who knows what the options are ?

Still interested as well, although I'm lined up to get a 2nd hand OEM one. The best I've found is a shop down south which came to about 700 delivered
...neutiquam erro.

If you're importing, maybe cheaper to get one direct from the US, but the Robbins Mohair as sold by CarHoodWarehouse is really good, but at £500 supplied/£800 fitted, it should be.... it's probably possible to get one supplied to Hungary for $500. Jack Smith's in Cardiff UK does their own, using reclaimed rear windows... I think they still charge £300 including fitting... no sure on what it'll be to have it delivered...

Carhoodwarehouse in SevenOaks does £500 supplied, £800 fitted IIRC. Top quality Robbins.
