Hello guys,
Id like to replace almost all of the suspention bushes of my car because i think they were not replaced since 2008. So the question is rubber or poly bushes?

Have any1 tried poly and how does it affect comfort? Im asking for poly coz its fit and forget and also the car will not be so tail happy coz they will stiffen the things a bit. :)

2nd question is about engine mounts poly inserts. Any experience with them?

Does it rattle with poly and can it be fixed(ive seen something with some arm that keeps the engine but i dont remember what exactly)?

Any recommendations from where to buy poly/rubber bushes?

Thanks

I made a mistake so now its correct.

Has been covered before.
Short answer it's personal choice.
Some think they are too harsh especially the engine mounts.
Me I think they're fine even with meister R suspension and the extra weight of a V6.
I think I only have them on my front wishbones on this car.

Are you the sort of person that values comfort over performance?
Do you do a long boring commute?

I will be using the car for occasional track days and summer trips to the seaside thats around 600 kms away and usually on such trips i tend to drive around 2k kms. That being said i guess i should go for rubber ones. What im trying to fix is the tail of the car because it wants to play even with very light throttle. When i was inspecting the suspension the bushes seemed a bit tired but no tears or anything.

About the engine ones the question was because i cant insure or register a K series swap i will most likely go for turbo option and built engine. I guess the rubber ones will be fine even with turbo but just to be sure. I got an awesome quote for k swap but cant register the car with the engine so im crying inside...

P.S. I started a tread because i tried to search using google but when i found some info on the forum the links were not opening. I guess its because of the migration.

Now I think if you do track days and are going for big turbo power you may want to polybush.

My 230bhp turbo had no issues with the tail swinging out.
Even the V6 with 208 ft-lb of torque isn't a problem unless I want it to be.

What tyres do you use? How old? Condition?
When was the last time the car was given a full 4 wheel alignment?
How many miles/KM on the car?

I have michelin winter tires, DOT 2012 they were in the garage their whole life coz they are like brand new. I know that i have to change them, i had wheel alignment when i bought the car.

Car had a huge accident 2006 year but the owner back then paid 13k euros for the repairs so i guess they were done right, everything was replaced and on the car was worked over 550 hours. 93kms on the engine 185k on the chasy.

The bushings are flexing a bit when wiggled so i guess this could be the cool print. Last time the tail broke lose in a straight line driving in second gear with light to moderate throttle around 2-2.5k revs.

Hopefully it is something simple like the bushes or the tires being passed their best.
My worry would be a chassis issue.
It must have been a big smash if it cost 13k to fix.

Based on your usage I would do it. Fit with white grease when installing and get a good geo (make the most of the difference you will feel :) ). I've had 2 polybushed mk3's and neither have rattled or been annoying, it just sharpens things up.

Literally everything was replaced but who knows. Im thinking of blue poly bushes/new chain tensioner/new u joint.
My steering wheel shakes a bit when speeding so my steering rack might need rebuild too.

Steering shake could be as simple as wheel balancing.
Could possibly be a corroded steering universal joint.
They can get really bad.

Ill remove the plastic to check whats going on. Not sure if this weekend tho, but at least i have a garage now and i can work a bit on the car when i get spare time. Is chain tensioner hard to replace? I get the ticking noise so i guess it needs a replacement.

We always like to start at the cheapest end, So I'm with scott on this one.

Personally I've noticed no major detriment with poly bushes on suspension arms, and I've done it to 3 of my cars now. GT4-Play do rear suspension arms with poly bushes already inserted which dramatically simplifies installation. Their front arms are really pricey though, so I just got a set with normal bushes from America for £100 a pair via eBay.

Don't get poly engine mounts if you value your sanity. My one regret with the car - a huge amount of nvh from the engine, very wearing on long drives!

Thanks for your input on the matter. I think im going to go with some adjustable rear arms and blue poly bushes. They are supposed to be a little bit better than red but retaining some more durability. And for sure ill pass on the engine mounts, will leave them stock.

I posted a similar question about a year ago. http://mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?topic=62424 In the end I polybushed everything I could (including refurbed front wishbones with polys already fitted), apart from the engine mounts and I am really pleased with the results - even for long journeys.

I have noticed an odd squashy feeling from the rear occasionally under hard cornering, but I suspect that this is down to an under torqued suspension arm somewhere, or possibly soft sidewalls on the rear tyres. I really ought to sort it out...
