Help with bushes!
February 12, 2018, 09:11:17 PM »
Hi Folks - so I have a question for those who've had experience with doing suspension refreshes on audi/vw group cars..

Here's the deal - my front top control arm bushes are going and I've been presented with a very expensive option of paying roughly £50+ per control arm (there are 4) plus 3 hours labour to have them replaced at local garages.
I'd love it if there were an equivalent of "MAG Auto" for Audi parts on eBay, but I've got you lot so so close enough!
Here's the question: Are the control arm bushes on the standard A4's (your diesels and up to 3L petrols) the same as on an S4? I ask because you can get some of your 4 basic arms for £69 on eBay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A4-B7-1-8-2-0-2-4FSI-1-9TD-2-0TD-2-7TD-3-0TD-FRONT-UPPER-TRACK-CONTROL-ARMS/330750007515?fits=Car+Make%3AAudi%7CModel%3AA4&hash=item4d023c98db:m:mC3jDzOcuPdF9VRxKSXk4vw

Then you can get a full set for £130...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16mm-CONTROL-ARMS-SET-KIT-Audi-A4-B6-8E-B7-Seat-EXEO-LIFT-SUSPENSION-WISHBONE/262422869380?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

But then if you keep searching you can find a set specific to the S4:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-AUDI-A4-S4-RS4-B6-B7-4-2-FRONT-SUSPENSION-WISHBONES-CONTROL-ARMS-LINKS-KIT/251248569778?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

It's for a B7 S4 Avant.

All advice much appreciated! I have no idea if it's just marketing...

Well the Seat Exeo IS a B7 Audi A4 so it would be the same part.
That's not even an exaggeration along the lines of "all VAG cars are the same". I mean VAG took the B7 platform A4, replaced it with B8, and continued releasing B7 A4 as Seat Exeos.

So following that logic, it should definitely fit.

Nice little tidbit for the Audi snobs out there :)

As Patrick says - they're all the same.

I was shopping for a MAF last week.  I found the exact same item for £22 and £120 +!

Ignorance is somebody else not knowing that which I learned yesterday viewtopic.php?f=88&t=63866

Thanks Patrick & Carolyn...
I'm going to go for the cheaper of the two sets and see how I get on... I'm not going to be pushing the car to its limits so the only real issue I can see is an increased weight difference between the S4 and standard A4's if there is any, and that having an effect on the wear and tear of the bushes and complements components...I am also assuming that this set is truly going to be of decent quality in the first place.. I'm not exactly going to be thrashing it round corners- it's more straight line speed/acceleration that this thing excels at..
