Celica JDM 2zz ECU? Here's how to talk to it!

So I've tried all kinds of different things - supposed JODB readers and even trying Techstream itself! and really struggle.

Well, today, having read a Celica forum, I've finally done it!

Using Torque Pro, you can put in advanced, advanced (honest - it's in the menus!) settings which allows you to put in additional settings.

Copy and paste the following:
ATIB 96 \n ATIIA 13 \n ATSH8213F0 \n ATSP4 \n 0100

I tried it with one of those £5 Blue ODB readers and it didn't work. However, I also have a much better quality one and it worked first time!

The code I'm looking at is a P0171. Well, that makes sense. When we were at Ding Day, I made a small adjustment as the Maf was rubbing up against the side of the battery. I wasn't convinced it was totally airtight, but it seemed the best I could do and I thought I'd give it a go.

A P0171 means it's running lean and the most common cause of this is getting an leak in the air intake.
So now I'm home, I'll take it apart and put it back together properly. In fact, following the video on MAF intakes, I may well take a 2zz box to bits and use that!

Tried this with my Corolla JDM ECU, but it wouldn't work. Maybe its the cheap ELM327 dongle then, got a link to the one you have that works?

I don't know why it's different to one of the blue clear ones, but that just didn't work.

These lines of code have been posted previously but obviously you need a decent scanner for it to work. Always learning.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Yeah, wasn't sure. I thought I'd make sure the title was clear in case someone Googled it.

As well as having the initialisation string in Torque, your adapter has to support JOBD.

That's the thing. Reading up quite a lot about it over the weekend, it's almost impossible to tell without testing which OBD reader to buy. Some of the ELM27 ones do and some don't. I was lucky that I happened to have 2 handy.

Annoyingly, I have a standalone OBDII which supports pretty much everything (including JOBD) but it doesn't recognise my car.

Anyhoo, I have a way of reading any errors now, so happy days :D

Just received this. It came with a disc though, do I need to update software to it before use?

Wouldn't have thought so. I've never used the CDs that come with them. Seem to have lots of cracked and hacked programs which my anti-virus doesn't like.
