Why not go for an MR2 plate...

If your after an 02 year you can register "MR02 ???"

Always thought something obscure is better... the ones you gave are ok if people know who you are, but most won't... and the reg plate doesn't help.  Something dead simple like T1 A?K, which is obviously your initials (easy guess), or something even more prominent, like 3000 U, or similar.
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on September 24, 2003, 15:19
see your point but people who dont know who you still wont know what private reg like  T1 AJK means and also the people that do know you wont know what the private reg means either.

thought i may aswell have something that some people will recognise.

then again might just stick with my normal number plate and spend the £250 on something else.

I was tempted by X 60MER as C8MER was sold after I spent too long wondering about it.

I'd have to have a screw through the centre of the 6 to make it resemble a C and I won't feel comfortable doing that.

Quote from: "keninski"see your point but people who dont know who you still wont know what private reg like  T1 AJK means and also the people that do know you wont know what the private reg means either.

If they're halfway intelligent, they'll spot it's a private plate, quickly realise that you're not making any words out of the other couple of letters, and guess the initials are yours.  Job done.

yeah suppose so but still dont like that style of private reg.

would prefer to make my name up or something like that.

there is one available that i like. its A1ANS

unfortunately its a bit out of my price range.........its £64,450   s:o :o s:o

I did see "MR 21" available the other week... was some silly price like £50000 or something... but you got to admit... would look the nuts as "MR2 1" on your '2!   s:D :D s:D

Quote from: "keninski"then again might just stick with my normal number plate and spend the £250 on something else.

I'd go with that idea... but then I'm not much of a fan of private plates!

Not so bad if they say what they're meant to say, but I don't like the ones where you have squash 2 characters to make 1, or pretend that a 3 is an E etc.

Alternatively, there's always the old joke about changing your name by deed poll to match your reg!

Or there's the naff option of choosing a forum name to match your number plate    s:wink:  s:wink:    xx51 ZUD    s:wink:  s:wink:

I will have to wait until the year 2015 and then get "KR15 CLK"   s:D :D s:D

That link only gave all the latest "stupid" type numbers. There are 467 prefix-style numbers also.
Happy hunting ( most dealers quote a price, but are not the original dealer. They will buy from another dealer and put their mark-up on it. The trick when buying from these firms is to try and find who the first dealer is and screw them for the best deal - no sale, no commission!)

I love my plate and despite only having the surname because of marriage I will not change it even though I lack the husband part of the equation.  I thought of changing it, but thought sod it because of the transfer fee. I wanted L125CAR, which would of have a fixing screw between the 2 and the 5 with a slight scratch coming down from it which looked just like an apostrophie (?) but it has never been issued by DVLA...boo ...I begged but they would not relent!  I suppose some people think that these plates are sad but I do like the fact that mine spells LIZ if you squint at it! Get the plate, I know that the only people who know what year my car might be are those with '2's, and as I have not seen another for the past month or so I am not that worried!

Anycase I have to look my best and like a posh bird with a nice car with the personalised index ( I know I am deluding myself!) so I keep smiling at men in Mercedes at the traffic lights hoping to pull..nothing yet though!

By the way Kris your index spells KNOB, thats priceless in itself!! Great plate.

Alan - Just a thought:

You could take a look on E-bay for a plate.  There's an awful lot of cr*p on there but you may well strike lucky and some go for next to nothing.

You wont be surprised to learn that I've got R2MUL on my '2' (my initial and the first 3 letters of my surname - and I've only got R2 because R1 wasnt available!!)

I got the plate a looong time before I got the MR2 but sometimes I see people looking quizically and thinking that it's some sort of obscure reference to the car.....  s:? :? s:?

Good luck with the plate search.   s:lol:  s:lol:

I got a letter through the post a couple of years back offering me T1 MJC.

(Tim John Carter).. unfortunately I didn't have the £2.5k spare at the time!

I'm actually annoyed I missed out on CAR73R at auction about 6 months ago.. I had the couple of grand spare too, but just couldn't justify spending it on a number plate in time!! Wish I had now, it'll never come up again.

The best bargain I had though was to buy one for my ex-girlfriend (she wasn't ex at the time, obviously!)

SHe was called Merryn, and I got M33RYN from the DVLA for £250! Waste of money now I think about it though....   s:roll:  s:roll:

Surely if you were going to buy 'MR2 1', it'd be a waste to stick it on a mk3?   s:D :D s:D   I wonder if 'MR2 3' is available........

One car I did see in the carpark at work, identical to mine, but had the reg 'MR02 BOY'. People thought it was mine - the shame!!!

Also been seen in the area by my boss, the registration 'PI5 SED'. Just asking for trouble, if you ask me.

My advise keep it simple and to the point.

I've never seen the point of getting ones that go with the car, unless you are going to keep the car for a very long time!

I'd much rather get one with my name/initials on or something equally long standing eg football team etc.

yeah, I agree too, I've often seen S2000s for sale with the S200 O.. plate, etc.. no good unless you intend on getting a back to back string of the same car I suppose..?!

As I can't get my initials anymore, I've really been thinking of something dateless recently.. like the plates on the ford adverts, something like 101 VUU - quite unusual, and usually around £800.

I was tempted with IUI 73 (my YOB), but mainly because it was nice and narrow in the new font and looked good!

A point no-one has brought up yet is that the personalised plates set the car off very nicely.

My plate is J3LBE, it makes the car instantly recognisable.  My mates have nicknamed my car JELBE!!

If you want to have a play about with your registration try this place:

I believe the company can make the plates in any size.  The holes are not pre-drilled, you have to do that bit yourself!  Although i do recommend sticking the plates on using adhesive pads, it looks neater as you don't use the screws or those screw caps!   s8) 8) s8)   Also water cannot seep in through the drill holes so your plates will never go manky!

It's the company i HAD to use, yes they'll make any plate any size and any lettering, had a square jap size plate made for mine.Just gave them the size i wanted and a couple of days later they dropped through the door.  s8) 8) s8)

No holes pre drilled UK size is 520mm x 110mm

There is a great one I sometimes see in Cambridge - PEN15. IIRC it belongs to Steve Parish.

There is also a SAAB in the area with the plate 5AAB and a Harley with H4RLY

A Porsche with TOY5 and another with VFA 5T (which has been altered to say V FA5T)

One of my mates has a Noble M12 GTO with the reg plate M12 GTO!!!!   s:twisted:  s:twisted:

And as I said, a Jag with G6 GRR (GGGRRR)

One funny one I always saw was when I used to travel home from Cambridge along the A14. There would always be miles of traffic backed up and he has the plate A14 JAM   s:lol:  s:lol:

IMHO private plates finish a car   s:D :D s:D  . Whether they are words, cars, names or simply initials.

My initials are GRA......... so I couldn't believe my luck when the dealer presented a list on 10 registrations and one was ?? 03 GVA.

I must have missed out on GRA by a few days, but those few days helped to screw more money out of the dealer.

It's great to have no trade-in and just walk out of the showroom if you don't like the price. I just waited on the dealer calling me in a couple of days. Boot on the other foot.
