Post by: Anonymous on May 10, 2006, 15:04
i'm having my wheels refurbished and i'm mulling over whether to have them done in anthracite or not.

does anybody have a picture of a silver 2 with anthracite wheels or can maybe photoshop one for me?

I've got a set of wheels away just now being recoated in high power silver for my silver car - a bit tamer than anthracite but I'l post pics on their return.

I expected my wheels back a week ago, but I think they still haven't been recoated yet.

I would like to think i'll have them in the next week or 2.

you should always tell them everything even if they do turn round and say they dont need to know that, the point is its their decision and not that your hiding something they may want to know

Do you think something like that will be nice on the 2 ?
They are "allesio spider" good quality alloys.

Just out of interest I ordered my first warranty replacements - 5 week back order. Because he would only authorise 3 (the other was perfect, well it was on Monday   s:roll:  s:roll:  ), and the guy admitted they had replaced some beyond warranty "as a gesture of goodwill". Might be worth a try, Heath.

Nobody can source the High-Power silver paint I want for my wheels from any of  the local suppliers. Does anybody on here have a clue where I might be able to source the paint?

Hi guys having my wheels done on sunday.

im also thinking of getting anthracite....

he is mobile and doing for £35 per wheel. he is bringing different colours down for me to look at....

the only thing is, he can mix to anthracite withiout taking the wheel off!! can this be done to a proper job?

or if he can source many colours, what colour would be better then anthracite on a 2????? how power silver????

he is going to refurb your wheels with them still on teh car and still with the tyres on?

where do you find these people?
Title:
Post by: leon_in_uk on June 9, 2006, 12:23

taking the tyre off i mean...

i do like the high powered silver tho...
Title:
Post by: markiii on June 9, 2006, 12:33
so he reckons he can refurb a wheel withouit taking off teh tyre?

why would you even want to do that? removing and remounting a tyre is piss easy.

it also guarantees he won't be baking the wheel to seal teh finish

personally I wouldn't

why not use KN in Telford they will do it properly and charge teh same amount

These mobile vans are all set up for the process.

They put the car on axel stands.

I suspect Leon didnt quite understand the whole process thats all.
Title:
Post by: leon_in_uk on June 9, 2006, 13:34
so anyway if he wrecks the wheel or doesnt do it right i will get is done again....

shall i go with the mobile guy?
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on June 12, 2006, 14:18
The mobile guys just 'break the bead' - that is deflate the tyre and move the tyre bead away from the rim slightly.  Then they spray the outside face of the wheel ... and that's it.

That's why I thought it a good idea to send my wheels (from my other car) away to Pristine and get them done properly - but it did cost £50 + vat per wheel.

my dad has had his bmw m3 wheels done, and he did a super job, also 2 neighbours have and cant grumble.

he said i can have any colour i want. and really do think i am gonna get anthracite. my mates said red, like a gt3... but i think im gonna have anthracite.....

£140 for refurb and colour change for 4 wheels is good.
Title:
Post by: leon_in_uk on June 12, 2006, 17:17
second thought...

might just go for gloss black......

anthracite on a silver 2 with red seats doesnt match with anything on my car....

black would go with the top...

They charge £25 a wheel to do it properly.  No brainer if you think about it?   s:wink:  s:wink:

its getting the tyres off, and driving all the way to telford though isnt it?? and then putting the tyres back on and finding replacement tyres...

id pay an extra £40 to sip a cocktail from my garden watching him do it.

so they don't do the inside of the wheel? going to look naff IMHO

i mean the wheels. i heard i need replacements while they are getting refurbed.

oh and as for the insides. i believe he wont do that. it is an option, but isnt the back black anyway..

if your getting some replacement ones anyway send them to KN or pristine and get them done properly rather than half a job, cutting corners just makes stuff look naff. And as for the stock wheels, mine are the same colour front and back as a proper set of wheels should be

yea good point, i might just have to go for the normal colour then. silver...

at least they will look nice..

Pristine (or their agents) keep a selection of spare wheels for you to use whilst your own wheels go in for refurb.  However, whether they would have any suitable for the 2 is any one's guess.

In my case, I went skiing the week the wheels were away, so I just left the car parked in my garage on axle stands.

I have a 2003 mr2 that came with 15 front and 16 rear.

I'm thinking of putting some new wheels all 16 inches.
Do  you think changing the front from 15 to all around 16 will make the car handle worse? It is a stock mr2.

Anyone tried these alloys ? Are they any good?

Just make sure you get the fron to rear tyre width stagger correct. You may also want to lower it afterwards as larger wheels tend to make it look more like a 4x4!
