Title: Sky Insurance - Discount for ROC members!
Post by: skyinsurance on November 13, 2008, 14:54
Hi all,

We would to make this very clear right from the outset.. we cannot promise to help every MR2 ROC member, we have some criteria to be met and also some exclusions. If we cannot help you, we can only apologise. For the majority however, we should be competitive and be able to provide an excellent level of cover.

CONTACT DETAILS:

The best way to contact us is via our website, you'll find all the details you need via the link below. Please follow the link and feel free to have a look around!

Hi Ollie and a big welcome  s:D :D s:D

I shalll certainly be asking for a quote come renewal as my current insurer is not particularly mod friendly.

I had a mk1 for 11 years and totally loved it, i never drove a mk2, but imo the roadster is very close to the mk1 so get yourself a drive in one if you have not already.

Once again welcome, it is great to see a mod friendly insurer as part of the club.  s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

Thanks for that.. I'll post up some details of my Mk1 (s) in another thread if mods dont mind.  I'd love a Mk3 at somepoint but I cannot justify it at the moment.  I currently have two Mk1s and a Fiesta daily driver   s:o :o s:o    I've driven a Mk2 and was very disapointed, I've heard good things about the Mk3 so I look forward to a spirited drive   s:D :D s:D

Yes, welcome to the ROC Ollie. I know you've already quoted a few members happy and we have a Buyer/Seller feedback thread (http://mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=23016) underway for you, so I'm hoping the service you bring to Club members will be a successful one.

Unfortunately, I'm in one of your postcode blackspots   s:( :( s:(  but I hope that by the time I come to renew you'll be able to cater for the folk of Manchester.... if my car hasn't already been nicked by then .....

Finally, given your experience with older marques of MR2, perhaps we can persuade you to have a nosey around the site and get yourself a proper one   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:wink:  s:wink:    s:flame: :flame: s:flame:

Go well

We do review our claims stats on a quarterly basis but unfortunately our stats for Manchester (and a lot of areas in the Northwest) are not good, hence the restrictions.  We can insure standard cars in high risk areas, but unfortunately certain postcodes are excluded from our car club scheme.  Sometimes this can be very frustrating for both the customer and for us.. when you have a customer who ticks all the right boxes apart from the postcode and we are unable to help them, it is as painful for us as it is the customer.  This is why we make it clear from the outset that we do have restrictions in certain areas.

Cheers for setting this up Ste and Ollie.

I actually rang through to sky insurance after seeing you guys mentioned on jap north east, that i'm also a member, before going with another insurance company that were a couple of hundred quid cheaper.

However, put it like this..

Phone call to sky insurance

"Hi, I have these mods - Short Shifter" - Me
"Ok" - Sky
"Aftermarket ECU" - Me
"Oh, which one" - Sky
"Emanage Blue" - Me
"Are they any good?, I've heard the Apexi is pretty good on jap cars" - Sky.
i.e. a decent conversation!!!  s:) :) s:)

And in comparison to the insurers I went with
"Hi, I have these mods - Short Shifter" - Me
"Whats that" - insurer
"A gubbins that allows you to change gears faster" Me
"So its like a gearknob" Insurer
"Erm, not really" me

And I had to explain each bit in detail - took a while but got there in the end..  However they were still a bit cheaper so went with the other company.  Still come renewal date, I'm calling Sky as I'd much rather be insured with a company whos staff actually knows what they are talking about, providing the cost difference is nothing to shout about.  (29m, 3 year no claims, slightly modfied, MR2 MK3, Cramlington, Garaged).

Cheers

Alex

Ollie,

One of the best reasons that I'm with another club's mr2 insurance scheme is that they offer trackday insurance if notified in advance.

Is this something that Sjy are able to offer?

Hi,

we do not offer trackday cover as such, we have recently looked into it but the general consensus amongst our customers was 'if you bend it, you mend it'.   Having said that, we do recommend a company via our website, their web address is:

Ollie, whilst i take your point, I suspect the average Mk3 is worth substantially more than Mk2 or Mk1s therefore teh if you bend it you mend option can work out a whole lot more expensive

I understand this, hence the link to Moris on our website.

The general consensus was taken from a spread of the members of different car clubs we operate with (we are affiliated with 80+ at the last count).  The main thing to check with trackday cover is the excess you pay if you do claim.. I have seen these as high as £5000 if you have an incident on track.  I'd advise checking these sorts of details before buying any trackday cover, also check that the track you are going on is covered by the insurer.

I got a quote through Luke @ Sky the other day (DEAD helpful/knowledgeable chap) for if I were to tubby transplant my mk2 and DAMN it was cheap!

I'm 24, been driving for only 2.5 years, with only the ncb gained from me being a named driver on my mk2 for hte past 2.5 years and a tubby came out at 1100ish....a V6 was about 600 under my own name also!

Thats....REALLY cheap considering I've not been driving long and had previously been quoted 1900 for a tub transplant!

So anyways, call Sky, they rock  s:D :D s:D

Not Skys' fault really, but i live in a Market Town FFS!

I tried Sky too - the guy who handled my call was friendly, helpful and called me back when he said he would (Daniel Lacey, incidentally) - sadly the closest he could get was £300 more than my renewal quote with Flux, so I'll be staying there.

It's odd because Sky told Ste that the only places they wont cover is Manchester and Liverpool, we can now add Bradford post code areas.

Liverpool and Manchester are two areas which are excluded from our car club scheme however we still insure many customers in those areas.  We also struggle with the following areas:

Preston
Warrington
Oldham
Bradford

and have restrictions on other postcodes.

I would still encourage anyone living in these araes to get in contact because we can use other underwriters.. if the car has a low level of mods or is standard then we are usually still competitive.

Thanks

Ollie, that's good to know.

Trouble with where i live is, it may be a bradford post code but i actually live in Skipton which is a Market town in North Yorkshire some 20miles from Bradford. One of those inequalities of post code lottery i guess.

7 years since i had a claim or incident, nearly 4 years since a SP30, only used for pleasure, have another form of transport, ok it's parked on the street but it's a no through road, member of CSMA, member of ROC. It's just not cricket   s:wink:  s:wink:

Hi, unfortunately a 21 year old is high risk on this car.  We'd need to see a high level of NCB to insure you on the V6.

Bare in mind we insure more V6 converted MR2s here han any other UK insurer so we do them if we can.

Kind regards

Don't worry, I'm not surprised by it  s:) :) s:)  I do have 2 years no claims, and the 3rd comes in place at the end of july, but unfortunately I'm going to have to cancel the current policy, so I'll be losing that extra year!  s:( :( s:(

Sorry you've been unable to cater for Manch postcodes this year Ollie ..... 'phoning around I'm completely at a loss to understand the logic that underwriters apply   s:? :? s:?

Current renewal quotation (CSMA-LV) is a 2-car policy: my knackered old AZ3 - no mods, no use and no value beyond the maximum excesses (ie hardly any point!) is 40% of the renewal premium, whereas the '2 is covered for all of its bells and whistles and business miles too   s:shock:  s:shock:

So, I enquired about moving the AZ3 from fully comp to third party only. It saves me a whopping 5 quid   s:shock:  s:shock:

So, I enquired about dumping the AZ-3 and insuring just the '2. This doubles the premium on the '2  s:shock:  s:shock:

The only way I can get a reduction is to move - it would be half the price if I'd stayed in Lancaster .... and one of the two would probably have been nicked by now!

This really sucks when you're an enthusiastic owner and a historically monumentally low risk.

[/rant]

Hoping SKY and others are trying to inject some sense into underwriter's premium algorithms (aka wet finger in the air approach).

I feel so much better now   s:lol:  s:lol:

Just paid the premium for the new addition  s:D :D s:D

So added...
Turbocharger
Intercooler
Boost Controller
Emanage
Replacement of current air filter
New Clutch
declared ~250BHP
+£387.50 ontop of the current £1155, which considering how much is is to start with I'm pretty pleased with. Still hoping it goes down a LOT when I'm 25 or I will 100% be selling and buying a facelift UK model as even with the extra £1000s on the car I will save around £700 on insurance every year for a car that's newer and worth a lot more. Maybe then the insurance company I work for will actually insure me...

Anyway, very helpful on the phone as always, cheers Sky!

One thing I will mention though as feedback is that over the last 2 years Sky have been rather awful at phoning back when they say they will without a lot of chasing...
Current example:
I called Friday lunchtime, was told it was busy, gave contact details and was told I would get a call back; no call back.
Phoned back at 3pm, said what I wanted, was told the Master Underwriter was out until Monday so it would get sorted and I'd get a call back Monday.
Monday comes, nothing.
Today comes, I called 30 minutes ago, nothing has been done with the quote and it got sorted in less than 5 minutes over the phone. I did wait an extra day just in case yesterday was very busy but still didn't hear anything today and couldn't wait any longer. It's just the little things in life, but I would've saved a lot of time and phone calls  s:) :) s:)

So called them back and spoke to a very knowledgeable chap who took all my details about my modifications and gave me a very good quote.

Sky did it for me recently:

I have just renewed with Sky. They were over 10% cheaper than my current insurer and far better to deal with; Luke was friendly, courteous and obviously knowledgable and interested. Highly recommended.

Luke also called when he said he would do so.

Hi,

unfortunately I can only agree with you on this point at the moment.  Sky Insurance (despite the economic climate) is growing, last month we had a very busy time of it and this included our best ever day for new business and renewals combined.  The office is busy, sometimes it is relentless!

We have done a couple of things to tackle this issue.  First of all we have employed an external company to pick up the overflow of our calls.  This is proving to be a double edged sword though!  Secondly, we are going through a recruitment process.

Thanks

My personal experience is that these comparison web sites actually work; certainly 'loyalty and no claims bonus'  are long gone. I've always been quoted a cheaper renewal by using them, I think because they offer discounts on new business, even though the company / broker you are dealing with may be the same one that you had your insurance with before, albeit under a different brand name. Also, you will almost always be quoted a cheaper price if you query the renewal quote on the phone. I've been back in the UK for ten years now, had five insurance claims (yeah, you need to avoid me   s:D :D s:D  )  and have only had good service from the various insurance companies that I have used; what I'm saying is that the service level is not directly linked to the price you pay; bit like airlines.

Hi,

your comment made me laugh, no offence but it did.  Go onto a price comparison site and type in your details and perhaps post a list of the companies up here who also quote you more than your £249, I just want to see which other companies 'discriminate' and 'fail',

I hope you can see my point.

Hi,

whilst we do EDIT have a few car enthusiasts working here (personally I am a huge Toyota fan and own 5 Toyotas) not all of our staff are car experts and it is unfair to to expect them to be.  The IQ is a fairly new car and we do not quote on them very often, I think it is fair to allow a mix up between an Aygo and an IQ, it was only a question whcih was asked, once you answered it I am sure we could have quoted on the IQ.  I am sure I could baffle you with a few cars but I wont.

Hi,

whilst we do insure a few car enthusiasts (personally I am a huge Toyota fan and own 5 Toyotas) not all of our staff are car experts and it is unfair to to expect them to be.

I thought Sky were more involved with just a "few" enthusiasts, this probably explains some of the comments that have been made above.

Actually Ollie the person I spoke with could not give me a quote as the IQ was not listed on your system at the time, but to say is that the same as an Aygo was some what confusing to say the least.   s:flame: :flame: s:flame:

Yep I'm a big fan of Toyota having previously owned 6 plus currently owning 3 today.  s:wink:  s:wink:

I've edited my post.. I didn't mean to type that, I meant we have a few car enthusiasts working here...

80% of the people we insure come through from our affiliated car clubs.

i tried to get a quote for the mighty hyundai i30, 1.4

gocompare etc, £249

sky, £429

is this not discrimination?

fail.

Hi,

your comment made me laugh, no offence but it did.  Go onto a price comparison site and type in your details and perhaps post a list of the companies up here who also quote you more than your £249, I just want to see which other companies 'discriminate' and 'fail',

I hope you can see my point.

Ollie, I appreciate the world of insurance is a vast one, and there are all manner of criteria involved in the calculation of a premium.  To be fair, at least 3 companies quoted £249, and had it not been for a lack of time to research further i am confident that i could have got that reduced futher.

I was just diasppointed that having read your initial post some time ago, and re read it prior to contacting sky, i was under the impression that you would at least be able to give a competitive quote. The mighy Hyundai i30 1.4 comfort is not really the boy racers dream, nor am i likely to be drag racing it through the streets of manchester.

Having said that, and in view of some of the comments above, the girl on the phone was very pleasant, very apologetic for not being able to offer me a quote, and she rang me within 3 minutes of my email. So fair play there.

Hi,

my company offer insurance for modified and imported vehicles.  Whilst we can quote on standard UK cars and are quite often very competitive, there is a huge market out there for insurance for standard UK vehicles.   Your mightly Hyundai is not exactly the sort of vehicle we specialise in and coupled with the fact that we struggle with the Manchester postcodes, we were never goping to be competitive on this one.
I thank you for your comments regarding the way your call was actioned and handled by my colleagues.

Im going to post something extremley possitve about Sky. I was very impressed recently, I moved house to a different area, the car is now no longer garaged. Called Sky, they changed the address, sent out new documents to me and all with no charge. My GF did the same with another insurance company and got charged for the change (admin) and they got the number plate of her car wrong and said it was her fault so charged her again to change the documents.

I would say an almighty "Pass" to Sky, not a "Fail"

Ollie, I see what you mean with unmodified cars, my brother has got a unmodified Mazda 323 now and the insurance premium with sky stayed the same as the two previous peformance cars he had (one was a supercharged MX5).  He is near the end of his current premium so that may have been the reason, but he'll give you guys a go anyway to see if its any better than the current price comparison sites. Hes always been very impressed with your guys knowledge of the modifications he's added to his car! Also the guys I've talked to on the phone have always understood all my mods, one even told if it would  be better for me to get a APEXi ECU rather than the Emanage one I'm running now! Thats great knowledge!

Alex

PS E, I wish my insurance was £249  s:) :) s:)

Just to let you know I was a tad dissapointed today. I have sold the mr2 and we phoned last week to say we want to cancel the insurance for which we paid £400 just 5 weeks ago. We got the refund letter saying we were only due £220. After the wife had finished on the phone complaining and being told that was correct, I took over and after speaking to the manager the girl said there had been a mistake and it was £294. Obviously this is still a big loss for me, but understand due to admin/commission etc. I am more angry that anyone else would have probably accepted the £220.

Its fair enough, but if it was the other way around and I tried to rip you off for £70, I probably wouldnt be covered !

Instead of cancelling, we are letting it run as we will be buying a new car soon which we will use the policy for so that we wouldnt lose as much. Im certainly going to think twice before changing my other cars insurance to yourselves in a month or so!

MR2 OWNERS BEWARE!!!!

Any comments would be grateful.......or some sort of gesture!

I am sorry to hear that Chris but we are a business, we make customers totally aware of cancellation charges.. in fact we go way above and beyond other UK insurers and actually read out typical cancellation rates before the customer even takes the policy, this procedure was brought in off the back of similar feedback to what you have left.

I do not see what more we can do.

A key point from mrzwei above as well, worth noting that most brokers frollow the same procedures so the same situation may have occurred with other insurers.

My main point is the fact if we hadnt complained, we would have been ripped off to the tune of £80 as your sums were wrong! Anyone else would have just accepted this. Do you not think this is wrong?

Hi,

without looking into the situation and speaking to my colleagues/custoimer service manager I am reluctant to comment, mistakes do happen but it appears in this case you have rightly queried it and the mistake has been spotted and rectified.

I am happy to look into this for you but I will require a PM with your full name, postcode and ideally your policy number.

Hi all,

As you probably know Sky Insurance offer many types of insurance but we are very well known for specialising in Japanese import and modified car insurance. We insure everything from standard cars to very highly modified/customised show and competition cars.
We hold affiliations with 150+ Uk based car clubs and we offer preferential rates to any member of one of our affiliated car clubs.

We are now rolling out a bike club scheme similar to our car club scheme. Although we have been insuring bikes for some time, we have recently opened up a scheme which enables us to look at all sorts of different bike insurance risks, eg, convicted riders, new riders, custom bikes, modified bikes, performance bikes, trikes, quads, couriers, mopeds. You name it, we'll look at insuring it!

If and when you are looking around for your insurance for your bike, please call the Sky Insurance specialist bike team. If you don't own a bike but know people who do, please recommend us. If you have a friend who wishes to be contacted to run through a quotation, feel free to encourage them to contact us using the details below or send us there details and we will contact them.

We do not have a discount to offer for the bike insurance but our rates will be looked at favourably and we are confident that in most cases we will be competitive on price and can offer a good service and level of cover.

Our contact details are:

Lol, i just spoke to Alex,

i am already insured up on my MR2 for around £680 fully comp (22yrs old) with Flux direct

was a bit purturbed when i was quoted £650 for my little Skoda Felicia with the same details except higher annual mileage and roadside rather than driveway.

Just called SKY after reading this thread and they quoted £542 for my Felicia which is much more reasonable.

it will be interesting to see how they fair against the awesome price i pay for insurance on my highly modified Porsche 944 S2 3.0ltr 241bhp.

Sorted my renewal out with David this morning, renewal quote was still pretty high so rung around a few places and got best quote from AF (as last year - Sky beat this on calling back), rung David yesterday evening and was told it would need to go through the underwriter and I would get a call back this morning. As promised I got a call back and Sky price matched the AF quote which I had emailed over to them. Pretty happy about that so with Sky for another year which saves me some hassle   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

£920 this year which makes me more pleased to have the car, a lot less than the £1640 I was originally quoted on last year's renewal and £250 less than I paid last year! (I did hope this would happen as I am 25 now)

The best thing Sky have brought back (I think they stopped a few years ago but last year they brought it back) is paying a deposit and then 3 monthly payments, this splits the costs nicely when you're dealing with paying high premiums and for only £30 extra it's a lot better than paying ridiculous hundreds in interest to a finance company.

Thanks.

Exactly the same situation as Oldtyke,

I was with Swift Cover who wont cover any modifications at all, £550 combined excess, 5 years no claims and 28 years old.  £525 if I paid it all at once

Chris Knott wouldn't insure me as I plan to make modifications and I'm not 30

Sky £250 excess, induction kit, exhaust and alloys won't load my premium, I've got business mileage on my policy, cost £500 in one hit

Better cover, cheaper, better customer service and they're all car nuts.

So happy with it that my dad wants his kit cars quoted with them next renewal.

Definitely recommended

A quick question to Sky Insurance. I eventually ended up getting Amdiral Multi car, as all other insurances would not give me no claims discount on the 2 as it is my second car.
Admiral gave me 10 years ( which is a lower level than my normal ncd, but is what my husband who is also on the insurance has ).
Would Sky give me a no claims discount on the 2  ?

OK, so we've got a Saab 9-5, a BMW Z3 and a Talbot Express camper van. Is it worth insuring them together?

We have a few options for customers with more than one vehicle in the household, feel free to PM me your contact details when you are up for renewal and I will arrange a call back to discuss?

Online quoting for modded cars excellent, except after accepting the T&Cs on the first page you get....

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Thanks for giving it a try.. hundreds seems to be using the system ok, the odd few seems to be getting the same error as yourself, this could be due to the browser you are using.   We are working on the issues.

Got it working again, got right to the end of the detailed quote and it falls over when trying to get the quote

Sorry, we have been unable to quote as some of the information you input may be incorrect.
ABI data error: ABIQ.FLE Integrity Check Failed - Occupation Record No Record Found
Please use the REQUOTE option to change your details and run your quote again.

My occupation is entered and I can reload see it fine.  I'll try chrome or firefox but this looks like a backend processing error to me not the browser!

** edit got the backend error message now to fix ...
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005'
Invalid procedure call or argument: 'Left'

You have 1 week to fix or my £950 ish dual policy premium will be paid to Admiral   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

** edit 2
Its okay guys I managed to talk to Sky and pull the web quote data.  Sky has beaten Admirals multicar price! with a better excess and mods covered.  Thats pretty good considering Admiral are much cheaper than everyone else.

Nicely done  :-) :-) :-)
Admiral and Andrian Flux were even on price for me with Sky unable to offer a quote as it would be worse than my quote from Admiral.
Though Adrian Flux had to take loads of extra's off to match it and offered worse multicar discount.
Like insurer roulette to be honest...

s:D :D s:D  i have insured again with sky. they had sent me renewals, but after some shopping around they were high compared with new business else were, so with a few e-mails and phone conversations sky had come back with some more tempting offers on my both cars. there helpfulness went a long way with me. so could have got it cheaper just by a small amount else were but i declined.

sky did a great job into trying to beat the other offers and were very professional, polite, helpful and  very understanding on the mods on the mr2  s:D :D s:D  that I renewed today Monday.

as with any insurance company you never really no what they are like till you claim. if they can be this understanding when a event happens (hopefully not) it will help with the stress and worry knowing you can talk to someone who listens.

Customer service means a lot to me and worth paying more for better understanding of good business practice.

Just seen this, very funny however I agree with the point that Sky seem to be making no effort to cover Greater Manchester postcodes. There is quite a few members in this area and I seem to keep getting covered by Adrian Flux at a reasonable price without much fuss so I must'nt be considered that much of a high risk in their eyes.Come on Sky,raise your game.  s:? :? s:?

Hi,

I'll be honest and say I cannot see the 'M' Manchester postcode exclusion being lifted any time soon.  These are underwriting restrictions placed on us, we are a broker.  The main issue we had is that when we have covered the area,  our underwriters were paying out over £2 for every £1 they took through premiums.  The vehicles we insure (high performance, modified and imports) are usually the first vehicles to go missing or be vandalised unfortunately.

It is not really a case of us raising our game, it is a case of our hands being tied.

Thanks

The discrimination against people living in the northern part of the country is getting really annoying.
The brokers say it's the insurance companies, and yet other brokers manage to get quotes with the same insurance companies.

ALL insurance brokers in my experience try and bump your premium up when you stay loyal to them, there shouldn't be the need to generate your own quotes or get comparative quotes. It seems like a law enforced robbery to me.

Hi Tony,

the online quick quotation facility is there as a rough guide only.  The facility assumes most of your information for the better, eg limited mileage, max NCB, garage parking.  If you PM me and remind me of your surname, I can take a look and let you know what I find.

Thanks

Quote from: "vanilla.coffee"Ollie, I have a question please...

I recently renewed with you and my premium is now £60 more expensive than last years premium with you.

I just clicked on your web site and found you can generate a quote for yourself online.
Your website has quoted me £100 cheaper than what I am now paying you.

before my Highlands trip I called a couple of other brokers and they have all quoted me cheaper than you.   s:( :( s:(
I gave Skyinsurance fantastic feedback this time last year on mr2oc but my loyalty staying with you seems to have been taken advantage of.

My question is am I able  to talk to you and renegotiate my premium down to the price your website has quoted me please Ollie.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

in fairness, we are a broker and do not dictate the rates given to us, we do however have a price match service we can utilise at renewal stage if a more competitive and like for like quotation comes to light.

Thanks

Whilst it seems that a large number of members are getting cheaper cover from Sky over other providers, it does also work the other way!  I'm with AF & have been now for a number of years.  The year before last I thought I'd try Sky based on all the positive feedback on the forum.  Unfortunately, they couldn't get close to my AF quote and were about £200 more expensive.  Last year I tried again & fairplay, Sky still had all my details on file from the previous years quote.  Yet again they couldn't get anywhere near my AF quote and this time, were nearly double the amount.  On both occaisions the Sky adviser couldn't offer me any explanation as to why there was such a wide variation in prices.  Maybe its an age thing - I'm one of the older members!!  Needless to say I've stayed with AF.  It's an wierd world is the world of car insurance!!!

Unless you know how we work, it is difficult to explain.  Our best rates are given either via our specialist schemes or for classic car policies, quite often a customer will fill out the quick quotation facility and a certain detail of their risk will prevent our system from offering the specialist scheme rate of classic car rate,  in these cases , quite often once we have spoken to the customer we are able to place them onto our specialist scheme or offer a classic car policy, at a lower cost that the 'screen rate' offered by the online facility.

Thanks for your comment, any more, please post again.

It's always a challenge to make online quotation bots accurate and usable ... the two concepts are mutually opposed.
They can only really give an "indication" of the cost of cover.

If you keep them simple and easy to use then people use them and they have to accept that fine details will need to be worked out when negotiating with the broker. If you make them as accurate as possible then they become unwieldy and complex, then people won't use them. You should always view them as your "foot in the door", and move to talking to the broker if the initial estimate appears appealing to your pocket. There is a balance to be reached, but if you err too far the other side of the tipping point then you deter customers. It is ALWAYS worth having a human -to- human conversation to get the best from any deal, I think we all tend to avoid this nowadays with the lazy, or convenient, click of a few options on a page.

I love doing stuff on-line, it's easier and no waiting in queues... But with anything but straight forward goods I don't think I've ever got a better deal online. There always seems to be some room for manoeuvre where there are a few factors to take into consideration so it's worth phoning up and bartering.
