Post by: 1969 on March 12, 2012, 18:45
Be gentle with me as this is a numpty question  s:oops:  s:oops:
I forgot to check when looking at the car!!!
Should my car be fitted with an alarm?
The car is an 04, is says alarm on the window and has a red light inside (I'm not sure if this flashes) but there is no audible bleep when locking/unlocking the car  s:? :? s:?

If its a UK car yes, pop the frunk open have a look under the spare wheel you should see the sounder.

Leave a window down lock the car and then reach inside the car this should set the alarm off.

Pop your window down, lock it once with the remote and give it 30 seconds to ensure its armed.... Then stick your arm in and wave it around!! Should make some noise, although if it has the alarm sounder in the stock place it won't be very loud!!  s:oops:  s:oops:

Cheers for the link I think that will be one of the first jobs to be done, I'll give the alarm a check before I part with the rest of my cash!!!

I have wondered for a while if my alarm works...so today I had the roof down but windows up, one press of the button on the keys and leant over to touch my seat, floor etc andddddd nothing......tried it again with two clicks of the keys andddddddd nothing.......

I tried it again a little later and it DID go off (quietly thanks to it being in the standard position), so then I tried it one last time and it didn't go off again!!! I waited a few seconds between pressing the key remote and punching the seat and moving the steering wheel etc and nothing! BUT it did go off once...any ideas?

Well for the first time since buying my 2 I've gotten my hands dirty!...well, it wasn't a very messy job to be honest haha

Took the 3 bolts out at the bottom of the door and pulled the carpet away from behind the seat
(http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z373/Hodjay/c6d047b5.jpg)

Identified the the alarm sensitivity unit
(http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z373/Hodjay/2d642f3f.jpg)

Finally removed the little round rubber grommet and turned the screw clockwise to make it more sensitive! (the screw being bottom right of the box where all the little while dashes are) I couldn't get a screwdriver in the gap, so used a small cross head drill bit that was slim and long so it fit down the hole in the box (I was surprised how far back the screw was set! Was a real arse to reach)

But I am happy to say that now waving inside the car on both sides and the slight touch of the seat sets the alarm off....and obviously I checked that with the the hood up I could tap all over the hood and car as if it was raining. Hopefully job done and alarm sorted!  s:D :D s:D

Thank you for the help!!!

The sounder is under the space saver in the frunk ... you did check there?
Best course of action is to move it out of the frunk and into the area next to the abs system under the plastics next to the frunk   s:wink:  s:wink:
