Wow that sitting low! Your original springs/dampers/boots certainly look like they'd seen better days. Looks like there's a gap each side of the new units, is there any lateral play in the bolts?
I hope that's just water vapour under your exhaust pipe?
You'd better get your geometry checked out that looks like some serious negative camber on the rear wheels in the last pic?

There's no gap that's just new painted metal you can see, it's a bit more noticeable in this photo to give you some idea.

I think at that height you will hit most objects in the road.

Pretty sure you have to drop the fuel tank so not a super easy job that many on here would have done.

Like the look, again way too low for a round my way but looks good  s;) ;) s;)
Title: PhillRC'S MR2 Build
Post by: AckersMR2 on July 10, 2012, 15:43
Agreed although I think you can shortcut it by just dropping the tank a little to get access but you need to drop it fully to use all the original Toyota fixing points, well that's what I read somewhere on here anyhow  s;) ;) s;)

Just a thought but with your car riding that low can you get a jack under the sill if you should ever get a puncture?
My sisters got a cooper s with something like 18-19" wheels on it and lowered and I know she keeps a length of 3" thick wood in the boot to drive up onto in case she gets a puncture for that very reason  s:lol:  s:lol:

Yeah mate i think thats the noise its meant too make, i like it IMO down the revs its quiet and it gets louder when you rev it hard.

Can you two get a few more vids of the toyosport? Interested to hear more from it as you don't see them in person often

taken it off again Chris, went for a long drive and once it'd warmed up it sounded awful, no way could I live with the dreadful rattle from it when you booted it, it was way too loud! My advice would be not to risk it, I only paid 60 quid for mine so not a massive loss. Phill might have been lucky with his and got a decent one but I think these Toyosports are a bit of a gamble!   s:| :| s:|

Its part of the Toyota Vehicle Security System. It sets the sensitivity of the micro fieldy thingy that makes the alarm go off when you wave your arms around inside the car when the roofs down.  s:) :) s:)

With the rollover bar are you planning on putting some bracing going rearwards to stablise it? If not I would! If you do roll that will just fall over like a fence in a gale.

Looks a very nice car you have there, great progress! I have very similar plans looks-wise for mine; just got a spare set of wheels to refurb, have suspension arms arriving in a few days, will get 25mm spacers to fill the arches more, and of course some coilovers to drop it as low as I can without messing with the handling or preventing me getting over speedbumps.

Yep, 10-20min job removing rear bumper (fiddly first time you do it) then old ones clip out, new ones clip in-actually swapping old to new takes under 2min literally. Well worth it in my opinion, I really dislike the black plastic on the pre FL 2's, looks cheap I think

lsd is an optional extra on the mrs, otherwise no post cat o2 odb2 don't work but there is a jap version that does, no immobilizer, has its speedo converted from KPH to MPH that can go wrong, and the stalks are round the other way.

got around to fitting the bc coilovers, these are the best coilovers I've had they are easy to fit and the damping adjustment is very good.

also bout a little carbon gear knob with make changing gear bit more better

and  this camber gauge is well worth £20 i recommend getting this if your playing about with alignment.

i should have new tyres this week Kumho ecsta KU36 205 50 15 all round, ive got another two oem 6.5j alloys to put on the front for now.

Good work... As Tomaky alludes to, what makes you go for tyres all the same?

Your car sits really low!!

don't want to stagger just trying to get rid of all the understeer i can, when the fronts are skinnier than the rears that happens.

what is the weight saving? Interesting idea!

I run a square setup too, feels great for the track.

I ran 195 all round, which I felt was plenty for a stock 1zz. With stock PFL wheels 195 looks a nicer fit on the rim to me than 205, and it hardly has the power to need more tyre IMO!

There strictly track tyres i felt the need for the extra bit ofrubber, will have to see if they are still sufficient when i turbo.

about the 599 rsr's, id recommend them to anyone struggling to find a tyre they like on the mr2. 30psi front 28psi rear and I've increased the front neg camber and softened the front by 5 clicks rear by 3 and the car is handling a lot better, anti roll bar next then ill book a trackday

Pretty smart!

I notice you removed the front badge; does it leave holes that you have filled it is it just stuck on?
