Title: More Aerial Help
Post by: zen200 on August 16, 2012, 15:35
In short....

My 03 pleate mr2 roadster Electric Aerial started to make grinding sound one morning when extended whilst going up. Left it for few weeks/months and just put up with annoying sound.

followed this thread -   l viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30031 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30031) l

Did everything the thread said but still the same problem occured.

Got a new aerial whip and antenna from ebay and put it in..... Same issue still.........

I have tried it on several occasions and with aerial in place and also with the aerial stripped out, but it will makes the gringing sound.

I am wondering if the inside white plastic cogs have worn down so much that they now dont grip the plastic whip preperly to stop moving when the aerial is fully extended up.   s:idea:  s:idea:

anyone got any ideas.... ? I have been driving around with no aerial for few months now and its starting to drive me crazy as only have standard cd player.....  s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

Motor works + New whip and antenna = Very frustrated person.  s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:

I am thinking of getting this -  m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330737555126? ... #vi-ilComp (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330737555126?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#vi-ilComp) m

There is definatley a problem and you might be right but we cant tell because we cant see. Only way to find out is to have a look.

I would look for a Toyota replacement from a breaker as it will be plug and play before spending time trying to get a "universal" part to fit.

Thanks Steve.

I will try spend a bit more time on it over the next few weeks and take some pics of the internals and cogs.

Looks like a lot of people have problems with the aerial. Mines stuck up, It worked fine before my radio fuse blew now it sounds like it's jammed. Don't know whether its the aerial or the control box.

I dont wanna go over the same details in this thread as other.

So are there any internal parts of the housing that I can buy/get ?
