Title: Apexi Power FC
Post by: 1979scotte on March 20, 2016, 09:18
I think a few people are running these.
Can anyone confirm that they are a straight swap for the Mr T ecu no harness required?
Does it effect immobiliser clocks or anything else?
As i run a turbo do i require the d jetro kit.
Just thinking of going for a custom turbo and weighing my options.

Direct plug and play, it will take out the immobiliser tho. As for extra kit it's will work with turbo and the maf but if to be map driven it will need extra gear.

What extra gear?

Don't come with a map sensor as it's designed to work on maf not map. So the extra gear is to convert it.

Actually if you get the datalogit with it you should be able to run a MAP through that.
Considering you need a datalogit to be able to access it with a pc anyway for tuning .... no bad thing.

If you're not using map, then plug it in and off you go

So to do it properly you want a map sensor and harness.
How does it work with a datalogit not something i had considered.
Loose the imobiliser thats a shame so we need after market.
Assume remote locking still works?

So datalogit is over $300
I think map sensor and harness are cheaper.
What are the advantages of the datalogit?
I dont think i am going to tune it myself.

Power Fc is off.
They dont seem to do the maf to map conversion for 1zz nor do they seem to do a boost control kit.

Ideally i want an ecu with map sensor afr knock sensor boost control and possibly traction control.
Best start saving.

Honestly look at emerald mate. And knock sensor not needed if you got a good map.

Emerald k6 does look pretty sexy from reading the site...

Emerald is a cracking bit of kit.

Not even wildly expensive.

Have you decided on standalone to get max power out or would you consider a setup like Helen's for the map sensor and boost control?

The unichips are pretty damn feature rich

I run the emerald so I am biased a bit. But I went emerald because the unichip was not able to run my engine poor tick over etc. However the emerald has not faulted once, it just works. But then it don't have alot of the flash features of something like link. However I feel its the simplicity is the reason it just works. Also support from Dave and Carl is excellent.

That's half the battle isn't it; the right expertise.

Depends what Scotte's after I suppose. Although I don't know why power would be limited by using piggyback.

But there must be a reason why Matt went for apexi standalone on the sp265 setup (anybody actually ever run that??)

I already have electronic boost control.
I want more power dont ask why i just do.
Sp kit is maxed better to sell as is and start fresh.
I have a turbo and charge cooler in mind just dont know what ecu to go for.
Oh and a manifold MWR Whifbitz ebay???

There is nothing iminent. Long term project.

Mr Buckingham's definitely the man to speak to then  s:) :) s:)
Onwards and upwards.

Reason the unichip becomes an issue is having non standard engines. The piggy back is basically fooling the ecu in some places, but the base map is still the standard ecu and it has tolerances that you have to still keep within.

I've seen too many unichips have problems for comfort. Nice being feature rich but pointless if unreliable.

From reading on here it seems to have been overheating that caused them to fail. Easily solved.
Also not sure how true that is

I have no issues with my unichip.
I need something with Syvecs features for emanage money.

Overheating issues?
Well maybe ... but other ECU's haven't suffered the same, plus there's the issue finding someone who will map the Dastek kit, even their own website is woefully out of date!
Obviously the advantage of the Unichip and Apexi ECU's is that they're direct plug in and play.
Emerald has a terrific reputation with Lotus owners ..... though many of those are NA tuning.
Megasquirt were making improvements with their kit too but that's a bit too diy for my liking.

I agree megasquirt is too home brew hands on for me.
Tom has a Link ecu doing f all at the moment maybe i should just borrow that.  s;) ;) s;)   s:lol:  s:lol:
