Title: 6-Speed Gear Knob-Where to buy?
Post by: MR2Adam on January 18, 2018, 14:20
As with age, the gear knob on my 2003 MR2 has started to wear and I would like to keep it OEM. But I can't seem to find anywhere that sells the original 6 speed. Does Toyota still stock them?

Figured I'd just bite the bullet and get a brand new OE one from Japan. Cost £50 + £8 postage from eBay seller jdmplanet (though postage now gone up to a tenner). They make out that there are only a couple left in existance so didn't want to miss out (also saw it  for significantly more under a US seller).

What do the stock ones actually look like? Think mines aftermarket, just bought a custom machined weighted gearknob for far far less than an OEM one - would just go aftermarket or get the OEM recovered if you really like it?

My gear knobs new and old. From my research,  didn't seem to be a lot on the aftermarket front, especially ones that mate to the gaiter without leaving a gap.   As has been mentioned, Rutland MR2 have some used ones.  Mine had done 77k  when I got it - so new one should see me through how ever long I retain the car.

Manindandism may be worth holding onto your old one in case someone could use it for a refurb.

I got a Matrix knob. I think it looks more durable.

I'm a bit lost, what's a 'matrix' knob and where can we buy one?

Sorry, Aussie version called a Corolla Sportivo. Did UK not get a 2ZZ Corolla? T-Sport?

Ah I see now, thanks.

The first thing that sprung to mind when I saw 'Matrix' was the MPV thing that Hyundai made.
