Has always money spent has to be a consideration and I needed to choose between the vents and the rear panels, I decided this time the rear panels :)

Doorbling has arrived. One of the plastic clips is included. Typically fool proof different colours for left and right!

Well, first fitting thése of course....
Looked at the assembly and think I will trý get the lock switched out inside the door. That would save taking the risk with that clip and it is only fixed with one screw. Feel more comfortable faffing with a metal scew than with a old, cold plastic clip.
@TheTigerUK Just thinking back to your thornton post the other day. You could increase your bling count if you had the TTE zorst as the other car. Twin bling. The chrome finish can sometimes be a bit poor. But the stainless underneath is tip top quality and polishes up beautifully.

Apparently this is one of the few which frees up horses without inleashing móre decibels.
From what I read this one frees up some 8 horses when combined with a decat pipe and still be none too antisocial.
The 8 horses seem a lot but I tend to beleive it. I had my no-muffler with the decat pipe and it indeed made quíte a notable difference. Made more of a difference still in decibles though. Simply not acceptable even here. Not because of bothering neighbours but because of drawing attention from the plod.
The Amuse is functional bling indeed. ´Just´ the money though ::) Well ánd sacrificing HelloKitty ;)

Does anyone know where the photos of TTE cut open for repacking has gone. Can´t find it here or elsewhere. It shows the internal design. Illustrates why it burbñes so uniquely, why it flows less than the standard muffler and why it over time blows the packing.

The internals were... Special....
But not sure about the "flowing less" part. Especially not on a stock 1zz. And even the 180hp TTE turbo setup didn't struggle with it.
And even people who pushed the TTE to 200hp did so with a stronger wastegate spring and a sports cat, not the backbox

Of course the turbo will blow more if the pop valve is set at higher pressure, thus producing more power. That is no ´proof´ of muffler flow though; the turbo will simply need to work harder to force it through. With a better flowing exhaust it will reach the same pressure earlier and with less pressure from the exhaust gases leaving the cilinder, less high revs of the turbo itself.
A look at the TTE internals will as I write illustrate the point.

Of course there's no actual proof that it restricts flow is there? It's just an assumption and those Germans know what they're doing when it comes to gas flow...

Proof? No.
But from @peterus post #36 "With a better flowing exhaust it will reach the same pressure earlier"

These
YESSSSS!!!!!
The two issues:
1. there is no gas tight separation beween the absobtion damped tubes on either end, meaning that the gasses can blow through the absobtion material. This is why the muffler will get louder to a lót louder over time.
There shoúld be a baffle in the middle with the tube passing through and it baffles me (pun intended) that this was approved by the TüV because it is specified in the regulations that the route of the gas should not be able to go throúgh the damping material.
2. the T-junction plumbing has several step down(s) in diameter and the T is a flow stopper
The T-junction into the two different diameter out tubes is also the neat ´burbler´.
p.s. the twin tips are blíng so on topic, but the innards of the muffling, performance of the muffler not even fringe bling no?!
Mind, I am ok with it but maybe
@TheTigerUK not?
Second maybe is that the search function might find this better if we open a thread with in in the title?

Thank for the clear illustration Jason.
Should be clear in contrast to the T-junction and the interesting plumbing of it.
From the cut away photo it is clear, to me, that aesthetics had little to do with the design/ manufacture of that system. It looks like it's been cobbled together with spare bits from the back of a plumber's van and assembled in a badly lit shed.
Quote from: Joesson on December 8, 2022, 09:59From the cut away photo it is clear, to me, that aesthetics had little to do with the design/ manufacture of that system. It looks like it's been cobbled together with spare bits from the back of a plumber's van and assembled in a badly lit shed.
It does explain why it was/is uncheap: Imagine the welding effort going into that plumbing :))
The most funny of all though is that the purists then nag over the imperfect welding of Malian mufflers flowing double at half the price.
Don´t get me wrong, slagging the slag of/on chinese welding is not out of order, just a bit out of perspective ;)
I love the look of the twin soft oval pipes. Just looks right.
I also adore the sound that comes out of it.
@Petrus has now explained why, the diff diameter tubes.
But to borrow from someone else's description of the sound. At idle, like an off beat wuffle.
This is the bit that bothers me.
I take the lovely sounding box, open it, re plumb in a more gas flowing efficient manner, sew it back up and completely bugger up the very sound I adore.
A case of choose your compromise.

That is a given.
It is either or.
Personally I think that on a turbo the TTE has no place because of the in mý eyes contradiction in terms of having a turbo and then throttle it. But then that is from a tech pov.
The issue of modding the muffler to flow better and thus delete the sound is a different issue altogether. The main right of passage of thát muffler ís the unique sound. I think it should not be modded beyond repacking. Chapeau to you for leaving it alone.
There are also better flowing twin exit ones, p.e.;
https://malianexhausts.com/product/toyota-mr2-spyder-1-8-tte-catback-performance-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/
I am going to try to combine the decat midpipe with a better muffler than my no-muffler one. Twin exit though, however nice I think it blíngs, is per definition extra weight and :-*
Anyway, the cheapest and none too loud hp gain is simply fitting a decat pipe to the OEM muffler. That will add close to 7 kilo compared to my current set up and :-* :-*
Arrgggg first world non-problems ;) :))

When you do, do not unclip the lock rod. Take out the screw securing it inside fírst and leave it inside the door. Saves a lot of fiddling and avoids the risc of breaking the clip. (have a look at Belle´s thread)
For refitting the yellow clip it is easier to have a helping hand raising the handle a few centimeters or stuff a bit of rubber under it.

Technically I think the back box heat shield is matt black to help radiate heat out of the back while at the same time preventing convection into the engine bay while the one on the manifold is silver to keep as much heat in as possible :-\. so
@TheTigerUK has actually increased efficiency with his selective chroming!
