Title: Bringing the black trim back to black
Post by: StephenBennett on August 20, 2023, 12:04
Hi all

Any ideas how I can restore the trim around the windows and rear hood? I've been using Meguiar's G15812EU Ultimate Black Plastic & Trim Restorer and it's world quite well until recently.

Now the trim has a white patina that the above cannot remove. The car looks really nice otherwise, so I'd like to get this back to black. Image attached.

Thanks!

Stretch vinyl tape is what I used.  Nothing else seemed to work.  It will take you a few goes to get into how to stretch it, but is gives a good result.

It lasted about four years and I've just redone it in the last few weeks.

I have gone over with a cotton pad and mquires metal polish. The soft abrasive removes the oxidation film. Bit like t cut for paint. Then I have done a combination of.
Leave it at that.
Gone over with aerospace 303.
Gone over with zaino perfect tyre shine.
Gone over with black shoe polish. (Old school trick)

All gave satisfactory results.
