This has been around for about a month or so I have had mine fitted about then and it looks great. There was a bit of trouble getting the kit from Mr T but you need to keep pushing the dealers. Good Luck  s:wink:  s:wink:

Yeh, they are ready to fit on, front and rear bumper extentions are easy, side skirts took me about 2hrs each to fit as they need to be adhered with mastic(supplied with the kit.

Good luck  s:lol:  s:lol:

Anyone got any more details on this?

I've only had my car a week, what sort of a job is it to fit the kit?

As said before, talk to your local dealer. If they show ignorance tell them the error of their ways and ask that they contact Toyota through their usual spares / parts channel who should confirm.

I had mine fitted professionally, others have done it themselves. Not a "dead" easy job, just guess you must consider how DIY you are, and what your views are as to final finish / looks if it goes wrong.

There are a load of pictures here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tbfoster that show our red '2 just after we first bought it - it has had a fair few modifications done to it since then, but these pictures show the bodykit well.  I really must get some new pictures taken of it, but I don't have a digital camera or scanner and have to borrow one from my parents   s:( :( s:(

Hi Guys & Gals,

I live up in the frozen north, Tayside Scotland, currently overseas  but would like one of the kits if I could get my hands on one. However I have not seen another 2 in white. Mine is a Jap import and post face lift.

Anyone any ideas ?

Cheers
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on August 21, 2005, 15:58
If you can get hold of one, you'll have to get it re-sprayed, as Toyota never produced the kit in white (as that colour was never sold over here).

Speak to your local dealer and see if they're still available.

TBH the shipping may be the killer. Came 3 boxes packed into one. Approx size 1800 x 60 x 50cm weight about 35Kg.

If you want a few might even pay you to find a dealer in Dover / Portsmouth (or wherever) and pop over and collect, though you would need a van if more than one. I had to take the boxes apart, and the long "sills" box went from front window to rear on my 5dr hatch mondeo, with the back seats down and only just got in.

Guys,
This could be good news all round, I e'mailed my local mr.T Sunday & received the below response Monday am, that's service    s:D :D s:D

I have just contacted Toyota GB accessories dept. This kit is coming in at
Ј250.00 + VAT.
The colours in stock are Sable, Silver, Black, Red or Blue. No White
available. For this special price it would be worth getting and
re-spraying the kit to your own MR2 colour.
LIMITED STOCK AVAILABLE

thanks

Looks like they are suggesting most colours are available at J250 + Vat, except mine bolliks (^($$%) guess it's a paint job.

Hope this may help some of you other folks, maybe your Mr.T's can't be arsed or stick on a %

I followed up through Bluey's dealer (who was great, by the way Bluey!). It turns out that there is just one guy at TGB Dealer Liaison who is distributing all of the remaining painted kits. He is adamant that they are £250+VAT now, so don't accept any crud from your local MrT guys.

By the way, I have the name of this bloke in Dealer Liaison, so if anyone needs it for ammunition in their local negotiations, pm me.

Rang local dealership in Durham this morning. They knew nothing, but made enquires and came back really quickly with answers (v helpful) - Spit, thanks for the dealer liaison name!

Seems there's two kits that they're calling 'pre MMC' and 'post MMC'.

Looks like post MMC is 2003 onwards (ie front fogs, more rounded rear lights with insets).

For pre MMC Toyota GB have got black, red, 'sahara sun' (yellow?), silver and sapphire. In Post MMC they've got silver, red, blue and crystal silver.

Price is £250 ex VAT.

Unfortunately I've got a black '03 - but at this price I've decided to get the crystal silver and will make enquiries about spraying.

Anybody got any ideas what a reasonable price to get these rubbed down and painted would be? Do-it-yourself job or not?
Title:
Post by: roger on August 26, 2005, 10:45
Can't help you specifically, but when I had mine fitted (factory pre-painted), my guys said they had painted and baked a couple of similar kits and they found a tendency for the paint to crack a bit due to the bending needed to put them onto the car (the plastic is quite flexible).

Didn't say how they overcame this, but my guess is they would have to spray (or re-spray) on the car, obviously much more time consuming.
Title:
Post by: markiii on August 26, 2005, 10:50
thats why you use plastic primer so it can flex.
Title:
Post by: spit on August 26, 2005, 10:53
As a guide, I had a yellow TTE sports spoiler done in red for £80. Pretty poor colour match under street-lighting though - the guy really struggled to get a good key with the primer.

So, maybe £200-250 for the kit? (MrT commented that the kit @£250+VAT covered the value of the paintjob alone, so a third-party sprayer will be in that ball park)

I suggest you agree the price up front in case the prep takes longer than expected, or the flexing issue that Roger mentions has to be overcome.

You can get paint made up into aerosol easily enough for DIY (I know a good firm in Salford), but its tricky to get good colour match because of the solvents they need for "aerosoling" the paint.

Or you could go 2-tone retro and fit red on black  s:wink:  s:wink:

My bodykit has turned up and it was red not crystal silver (not that it matters).

Anyway, got three quotes for the paint job - £300 to £350 before VAT from a local professional outfit, £200 cash from a back street bodyshop and £190 before VAT from Toyota.

That was a pleasant surprise! Needless to say getting Toyota to do it.

Also, local dealer has ordered a pre 2003 kit in yellow by mistake. Toyota GB won't take it back apparently, so they're looking for a buyer. Anyone want a cheap yellow kit can PM me.

I think I might be able to help, they are indeed a MrT franchise:RMB Teesside Toyota. Checked with Mr T's website and they show up on th dealer register. Got a phone number as well 01642 808044.

Quote from: "loadswine"Be interested to see how you get on.

Thanks for the info, Nigel. Very, very helpful.

I've just got off the 'phone with Teeside, so here's an update......(sorry its a little long...... s:roll:  s:roll:  )

It seems that Teeside have forged links with the Dealer Liaison guy more than many other dealers, which is why they seem to have access to all the kits. Just to provide some balance for those going through their local MrT. , Teeside don't physically have all the kits - requests still have to go through Dealer Liaison - hence the brief wait for delivery.

Contact at Teeside is Mark Headlam - happy to talk to anyone about the kits (I did discuss a GB option with him, but given their current price and stock availability it probably wouldn't work for us this time around....however, I've offered to act as lead on any future GB opportunities that we might be able to set up with them - will keep you posted via other threads).

Ignore the "submit best offer" on E-Bay - Mark tells me this is a remnant of a previous listing when they were at £295. So its £255 +p&p or go whistle  s:wink:  s:wink:

To sum up whats avalable.....
only pre-facelift kits are available as at now.
all pre-facelift colours are still available, but only about 10 of each colour left in stock, with silver selling the fastest (take note Bongo  s:wink:  s:wink:  )

Finally, Mark is going on leave tomorrow for a couple of weeks - in his absence, ask for Matthew Tyson.

Sorry to confuse - your dealer could be right about Steve being on holiday. I'll try to clarify the position for you in the morning. That said, if he is on holiday, it would suggest that someone is supplying the kits in his absence - maybe you should storm your dealer and get them to be a bit more probing.

As for whats left, this came from Mark at RMB Teeside in direct response to my question "what stock is still available". Unless there is some odd reason that they can't get facelift kits through Steve, I would take this as the informed position..... but again, I'll post up tomorrow if I find out more.

BTW, the RMB EBay posting has ended. Mark may well put it back with the "best offer" removed (up until now he has just been re-listing it with the "buy it now" reduced)

Quote from: "nighthawk"In the mean time, has anyone in this thread managed to actually buy an 03--> kit from toyota for this low price?

Oh yes, see earlier - got '03 red kit for my '03 black 2 for £250 (ex VAT). Had it painted black for £180 ex VAT by Toyota - not bad overall.

Just need it to stop raining so I can fit it.

Quote from: "spit"Sorry to confuse - your dealer could be right about Steve being on holiday. I'll try to clarify the position for you in the morning.

As promised - clarification. No, Steve isn't on holiday, unless he has taken his 'phone and emails with him! Kit ordering is still going on through Dealer Liaison as we speak.

Quote from: "spit"As for whats left, this came from Mark at RMB Teeside in direct response to my question "what stock is still available". Unless there is some odd reason that they can't get facelift kits through Steve, I would take this as the informed position..... but again, I'll post up tomorrow if I find out more.

Yep, facelifts started drying up last week and are not available now. This might not be the news you were hoping for Hawky - soz   s:cry:  s:cry:

Mark has promised a more complete update on the remaining stock levels within the next hour. If it arrives before I hoof off out, I'll post it up.

RMB are to run the kit at the offer price for another 2 weeks, or until they're all gone, so best advice is probably give him a bell before he goes on leave.

I also spoke to him earlier and can confirm that there are no facelift kits remaining. Shouldn't have used the funds for other things and bought it two months ago  s:? :? s:?  It's my local delears fault as when I went to order eight weeks ago they refused to fit because of the hastle.

IIRC, Mark said that covers aren't readily available now, which is why they're floggin' the trolleys off.

Yep, I'm arranging this with him at the moment. A number of ways we could do it - I'm looking for the approach that benefits the club the best without disadvantaging the other good Toyota dealers out there who also want to support us.

Gonna liaise with Dan (Ekona) about this and will probably feature it under Group Buys. I'll be asking you all soon to give me a wish-list (not just for accessories, for parts too - facelift headlights, anyone!?  s:wink:  s:wink:  )

Mine was effectively the dealer price. I baulked at first, then found they were subbing it to a local firm. MrT told me they charge me cost.

I approached the sub direct, they wouldn't move on the £200, so I had it done by them rather than hunt around.

I too am going to have a go at fitting, although following a chat with roger I've decided to screw/bolt in the side skirts at each end as well as glueing.

There's nothing in the so-called instructions from Toyota telling you to do this, no fixings supplied and no pre-drilled holes in the sideskirts.

Anyone got any tips before I start drilling through the bodywork (eek) - presumably I want some waxoyl for rust proofing and should touch up the paintwork?

Plus, what's best - nuts/bolts, self-tapping screws????

I think mine are all self-tapping, and I reckon that on the front at least it may well be attached to the hole/clips for the mudguard. At least those clips that hold the screws will hold it tight without putting pressure on the body work.

Perhaps they are there to hold it in place while the glue sets   s:?: :?: s:?:  but I'm not taking them off, just in case.

I currently have the colour-coded mudflaps - these are very loosely bolted on (with plastic screws  s:shock:  s:shock:  ), but have been rock solid and could provide a starting point for the alignment holes of a few of the bodykit parts. I might even see about grafting the skirts and flaps/spats together - might look cool, you think?

A combination of a Sikaflex clone (Bodyline - cheaper and better) and short self-tappers is the approach I'm gonna take.

Roger's last comment seems about right - If its anything like the TTE sports spoiler fit, it turns out that the feeble bolt fixing didn't actually do much other than hold the thing in alignment while the Bodyline bonded, and that baby aint goin nowhere  s:wink:  s:wink:

Added bonus if you're using the gloop is that a coating around the tapper holes will effectively do the job of waxoyl at the same time. With clamps on the long runs and sufficient time to cure the job should be a good 'un.

They came back with...

Tricky once its already on, but if you can get in to clean the surfaces (eg with some meths' on a cloth on a stick), the aforementioned gloop, a clamp and a little patience should see it right, and seal the seam between skirt and body.

Halfords didn't stock it, so I picked my last batch up at a specialist auto wholesalers in sunny Stockport. I forget the name - doh!, but if time allows I'll be popping in there tomorrow for some more. I'm not aware that they do it in anything other than black (although Sikaflex comes in black, white or brown) and i've never seen it in silver   s:wink:  s:wink:  but will check for you Nigel.

If you want to source Sikaflex 291, marine suppliers are a sensible place to start - its used as an adhesive sealant for boat repairs.

Managed to track down Bodyline. Its made/supplied by Brown Brothers, part of the Unipart Group. They have branches all over the country apparently.

I found my local one in Newcastle after a call to the Unipart head office. One tube is £6.66, around half the price of Sikaflex by the looks of it.

Definitely going to use this, rather than the glue from Toyota - When I opened my fixing kit I found that the degreasing solution bottle was empty. Oddly the seal didn't appear to be broken.

Maybe it'd been lying around so long it evaporated!  s:wink:  s:wink:

You beat me to it jonytom!

Yep, find a local Partco Autoparts, or ring Unipart Automotive Ltd on 0121 717 0001 to track down a local branch.

£5.95 +VAT

Nigel, its available in Michael Jackson (Black or White!)

*EDIT* Partco product code is BDPBBB310 (Black) *EDIT*

Its over-paintable, but careful application and you shouldn't need to.

Couple of tips from my spoiler install.....
- this stuff can be tough to pump if you're applying a fine bead - so use a decent gun at room temp.
- its very messy and slippy when wet - spills take some shifting and if you don't get alignment first time things will start to get messy! Keep some kitchen roll and white spirit handy.
- because of the above - borrow a pair of hands or two for the install
- clamps, wedges, props, tappers etc will most certainly be needed to hold everything true until it cures. Go for a dry run before squirting the goop!

Maybe he has done a deal with Toyota?

I emailed this morning to see by chance if they still had any as i've just come across this deal and the Toyota Garage in Yarm (they're who advertised on Ebay) can still get hold of them, well def Chilli Red anyway, apparently there's 20 of them left.

I've ordered one, £295 including VAT and postage.. bargain! Its coming on Monday!

Bagged myself a cheap hardtop on ebay the other day too.. its been a good week for my 2!

If anyone wants a contact for the guy who's dealing with it at the garage, give me a shout, i'm sure he'd be v pleased to hear from you!
