Right, I bought my 2000 MR2 approx 6 months ago. It already had some upgrades including twin exhaust and a Sony CD player with DVD player and multi changer.

Having bought an iphone I really wanted to have a stereo that I could hook it upto, like a standard ipod. So not knowing if I could adapt the Sony HU I went out and purchased a Panasonic with ipod connector.

Me and a mate set about taking the old HU out, which was fun in it's self and I could possibley need a new stereo carriage. I initially thought that the original HU would be sat in a standard cage, use your keys, slide it out and job done. Not the case, as I now know that the HU is actually screwed into the main assy.

Anyway we got the Sony out and went to hook up the Panasonic but it looks like they have bodged the cables instead of their being the car stereo loom with an adapter that the sony plugged into they cut all the wiring and connected it using cable connectors. So I need a new ISO lead.

Which is fine, but i've also been told that the MR2 has a built in amp which can fail when fitting a new HU.

Now i'm in two minds of what to do, keep the Sony I have and try and find an ipod connector or muddle on and pay a professional to get the Panasonic in there.

I'm now on my 4th day without any music/radio and I need to see a light at the end of the tunnel!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It was only the MkII that had an amp (and IIRC it wasnt in all of them). The MkIII (aka Roadster) has never (to my knowledge) had a factory fitted amp.

The guy I spoke to wasn't in the know, ended up taking her to an audio specialist in Taunton. All done, fitted for £42 + vat.

All working, iphone works without any hassle. Thank you for the advice.

Now i'm onto the new door speakers!

I have come across these speakers on Ebay, are they any good?

I know a few of you guys have the Infinity Kappa speakers but these are appealing as they are shallow mount and I would assume should go into the roadster with little hassle?

Or I have the chance to pick up some Focal 165A's for £70, brand new.

I currently have a panasonic HU and play various genres of music, so I need a set up that will be a good all rounder.
