Different length stock wheel nuts

never spotted it before but while I've been refurbishing the rear calipers I've noticed 2 different lengths of wheel nut, I'm guessing I ought to have the longer ones on the rears because of the wheel depth? Mine are randomly fitted on all 4 wheels! Anyone shed some light on this?   s:? :? s:?

funny, had the car 4 years, wheels on and off a few times and never spotted it before! Must concentrate harder next time  s;) s;)
