Can I use any colour automotive paint to paint my alloys or do I have to stick with a special 'alloy wheel' paint'?

I am going to stay silver but would like to choose from all the different options rather than a tin of flat silver wheel paint. The smoked chrome colour looks rather nice but don't know if it is DIY 'able  s:D :D s:D

You can use any spray paint but recommend 3 layers of hi build primer, then 2-3 of paint and 3-4 of lacquer

I have gone for the regular silver colour as it comes in big tins which means I can build up the layers.

They seem to be looking ok at the moment. I did put on 4/5 layers of primer and then sanded off lightly with 1200 wet and dry. Just put my first colour coat on and leting it dry off for 15 mins.

I am quite enjoying doing this belive it or not, especially as all the elbow work was done when rubbing down yesterday  s:D :D s:D

Just the bold silver. It was the same make as the primer and laquer. Reasonably happy with the result certainly better than before, but i feel like I should have spent more time with the sandpaper in the corners of the spokes...........to get them perfect. Next time I have a spare day or two I might have another go, or will bite the bullet and get them done by a specialist. Maybe when the tyres are due.

They are a bit darker than before, and had been refurbed prior to me having a go.

8/10........I am a perfectionist/sad. lol
