You got that in quick  s:) :) s:)  Have you had chance to drive it yet ? ifso was there any difference ?

Saw your Youtube video on the charge cooler - very interesting results - I am guessing the much larger core outweighs the less efficient design.

I think the volume af water in the charge cooler would make a difference
Lee
Did you measure the volume of water held in both Chargecoolers?
I would think the Ebay one has a significantly larger water volume

The core is not actually that much bigger, it's mostly casing

Nope didn't measure the water, but the eBay one has less air resistance..

Went for a drive today. 27 degrees cruising to peak 45 degrees after a couple of good rev limiter boosts.

Project bonnet next.

Next year is the big one — going for 400+bhp on a 1zz ,got to show people that a swap is not needed for awesomeness  s:D :D s:D

Cheers dan, they aren't perfectly parallel but I must have had them apart 1000 times for various reasons, got fed up for now.. I'll sort them later. Give them the time test first, reliability

Terrific job Lee!
Looking forward for the step by step build of your engine to hit that power level (with associated videos and how to guides so we can all copy you one day...)
You should totally look into a live stream one day...

Good going on those lights.
Really fresh looking 2.
400 is perfectly reasonable from a built 1zz.
It's just the cost.
2zz swap and FI is the cheapest option for big power.
Me I am really happy with my V6.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

400bhp?!?! What will that be? Twin-charger?

I'm loving the 1zz (still stock), but with a just a little more grunt throughout the range and it would be perfect... even 200bhp would be plenty, so I'm just looking at a compact s'charger... but I'd need somebody to fit it (no garage/workshop of my own) - extra weight, having to rev the nuts off the car (2zz) and any turbo-lag at all holds no appeal, so the relative lack of complexity of a supercharger seems the right fit for the MR2's character.

Is the front+rear downforce balanced? How is it in long, highspeed corners? I only ask as the MR2 is rear weight biased already, so I would have thought you'd end up with a lot more understeer?

I'm not looking to go the big aero route though - mine is a daily driver and I'd prefer to keep it discreet: painted calipers / aftermarket discs / exhaust (powerflow / TTE twin pipe) is the most I'd consider for externally visible changes... happy to tinker under the skin though!
Black 2006: AC & heated leather: 4x Megillian braces, Koni/Tein custom suspension, MTEC+YS+braided brakes, Toyosports manifold, TTE exhaust, Conti PremiumContact2(summer)/ Conti TS860S(winter) / YokoAD08RS (track/summer), Pioneer MVH-390BT + TS-E171ci, FBSW, Robbins mohair hood.

Bore the block to 82mm, forged rods and pistons, ported head with upgraded valve train and a moderately sized turbo should make that number.

Lee - I have really learnt a huge amount from your project, its really impressive that its all DIY as well so top marks to you!

Cheers Mitch, yeah 82mm fully forged top and bottom, engine will be good for double that power.. only really held back by the gearbox. Match the right turbo to the setup and little to no lag. I don't get any lag now on my current setup. Supercharger s never really appealled to me. Can't see the point of something that doesn't reach its full potential until you run out of revs. If something can make 10psi of boost I want it from the beginning.

The car handles very well. Everything is nicely balanced. I give in before the car does.

I am having the dilemma about the gearbox, want to keep with the 6 speed and will look to fit the JUBA gears in 3rd and 4th, apparently the 6 speed box has slightly narrower 3rd and 4th which is why they usually fail, also issues with bearing failure etc. Some have got away with running a stock 5 speed box at higher power but wanting to keep the 6 speed box, saying that the JUBA ratios are for the C60 box out the Celica so is more suited to the 2zz, they fit the C66m box we have but can mean a rev drop from 4th to 5th but I very much doubt I would still be in the power to need 5th! Good news is that with the upgraded head and cams I should be able to rev to 8-8.5k so the top of 4th gear at 8k RPM means a 129mph road speed - I have worked through all the ratios with various options. Still looking at the E153 box swap, heavy and with wrong ratios but will hold the power without going fully custom - you can get different OEM final drives though but a stock E153 with 4.2 final drive at 8k rpm would be at 146 mph in 4th.

If my car is ever half as good as yours when I am done I will be a happy  s:) :) s:)

Keep up the good work!

Hi Lee , will you be changing the size of turbo to be able to hit 450bhp ? I have the same whiffbitz turbo kit as you and have been told that it needs to be bigger to achieve higher power figures even with a forged engine ??

I'd really be interested in your engine plan as I've been exploring all possibilities ie  forging 1zz, 3sgte , V6 and waiting on the VAG 1.8T swap

cheers Paul
