Great thread so far, and good luck with the rest of the build Joe.

Similarly I've gone down the 2zz route with se7en motorsport cams and lightened flywheel. I've been contemplating going turbocharged in the future, but this is now making me sit up and consider a SC setup.

Are you running standard or uprated internals?

Cheers, certainly taking my time about it though!   s:lol:  s:lol:

I think the hidden pockets of rust were more of an eye opener. The blasters didn't follow instructions to strip out the old underseal from the nearside, so I've had to do that myself again  s:roll:  s:roll:  & there were at least 4 patches of rust on the seams (underneath what looked like perfect underseal) In 3-4 years they would've certainly needed serious attention.

Cheers Phil, much appreciated.

I do like the cam'd 2zz / Rotrex combo, plenty of power but tame enough at regular speeds. The jet fighter whistle form the charger & BOV noises are pretty cool too   s:D :D s:D

The engine had ACL big end bearings with ARP bolts, G-PAN sump, uprated oil pump gears in brand new housing, new water pump & everything on the timing side was renewed with genuine parts i.e vvti gear, chain, chain tensioner etc... It's still on standard rods & pistons though.

hi all, haven't been here for a while,

btw, just saw this build, great awesome work.

in regards to the rust. most 03 shd check on the underside of the seats. little sipping of water (maybe from downpours) may be caught/trapped as moisture under the carpet.

No significant developments, to be honest the car was dropped off in a bit of a state so not had much motivation through winter. Aside from everything being caked in blast sand, they hadn't followed instructions fully. So I've been thoroughly fettling the thing again, cutting out old underseal, removing sheared bolts I'd forgotten about, clearing out sand from every crevice & sorting any hidden rust along the way.......awesome jobs haha!

Anyway, I'm just throwing some pics in to keep the build process up to date  s:) :) s:)  The car has now been fully rubbed down, primed again & ready for a proper coat of stone chip (not the half assed job the blasters gave me, grrr) Once that's done & cured I'll be going on with some top coat & starting the rebuild.

Looks good to me. Hope the better weather starts to get you motivated again.

What colour topcoat are you going for or is that a secret?!

Niiiiiiice!  :-) :-) :-)

Man I'd love to have a space like that where you can literally take it apart and not have to put it all back together for fear of losing bits or having kids run off with things...

I'm sure it's going to a beautiful work of art when you're done!

I've been dreaming about a space like this for years, it does cost though, but I don't have any other vices apart from good ale   s:D :D s:D

I'm not sure "work of art" is the correct term. It's a funny one, I'm all about what you can't see rather than what you can... if that makes sense? On the outside it'll probably look like sh*te, but that doesn't really bother me because I don't want to be too precious about the exterior.

Might even take the RAL colour into the bodywork after seeing it on this Cobra   s8) 8) s8)

I am a massive cobra fan. That is not OK.  s:-( :-( s:-(
Just looks like polished primer to me.

Red accents are cool though.

Cobra looks mean.
I like it more than yellow atm.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Have you paid for pb then? If not, they will catch up with you as dont seem to be closing all accounts down at the same time!

Make sure you dont leave your only copies on pb as I wouldnt be surprised if they dont  last long given the way they have acted!

RAL 7043 is close to that - I've resprayed my MR2 panels in it and was happy with it being close to the grey of the Porker in your picture.

All pics migrated over to Imgur, what a ball ache. Soooo, an official feck you Photobucket!   s:D :D s:D

I've decided to go a bit deeper with the whole resto & completely strip her to the bone.

Few catch up pics first; After cutting out the untouched underseal from the passenger side & rubbing down/spraying the whole car again with zinc primer, I decided to test spray the UPOL Gravitex stone chip. Went on well & dried a treat under cheapo halogen heaters, very OEM looking.

So, doors off, dash out, sound proofing chiselled out, windscreen out & all remaining wiring removed...the works basically. Decided to refurb the dash crossbar & supports whilst out & also got around to removing my spare diff from the old 5 speed   s:) :) s:)

I think I've figured out where I've seen this type of attention to detail before... I believe it was Fgrob???

Your attention to detail is amazing man, and I'm jealous of the time that you have to apply yourself to this stuff!

Thank you for posting up the photos of the bare chassis - currently in the process of seeing what my project car would be like without certain bits bolted to it.

Its amazing how those support brackets in the centre rust, mine are the same!

Haha I have no time to apply, that's why it's taking so long   s:oops:  s:oops:

No worries m1tch. If you need anything specific, just shout & I'll post it in your thread   s:wink:  s:wink:

Thanks for that  s:) :) s:)  how much sound proofing did you remove btw? Removing the carpet and side trim looks less scary now I have seen your car!
