I've removed all sound proofing, what little there is of it, but it is a tedious task. I chipped it all off with hammer & big screwdriver, then removed the leftover adhesive with paint thinners.

Areas highlighted below... (Chassis rails not completely necessary unless welding them up)

your certainly going to town on this one, great work ,i know what you mean about the rust i went through that problem with my mx5 ,i would find a small spot of rust poking through the under seal and by the time i had scraped it off it was 10 times larger.

I will be watching the thread closely.

Does anyone read this without worrying about how much rust treatment their own cars could need?

Seriously great attention to detail. It'll be 10x better than it left factory once your finished and that's before the Celica engine is in!

Finished the stone chipping & the interior has now been fully fettled; floorpan holes tidied with new resized grommets, pin holes filled, chassis rail holes welded up & all primed. Tiny bit more exterior seam sealing to finish & then topcoat time  s:) :) s:)

Had a change of heart with the top coat, everything will be done in satin black to make life easier. This ain't no show car   s:lol:  s:lol:

Always good to see progress on this.
Surely can't be long now before big lumps start getting bolted back on?
Keep it up!

Great project.
Keep it coming.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Got to admit Joe, I really want to go down to bare tub for one of the two cars myself. Seems like a good starting point to restoring to its former glory.
I can't recall a day when I drove my MR2 and it didn't put a smile on my face

Looking good.

I think you should go with shiny paint though after all your effort, would be a shame not to show off the pristine body! (Plus would be more protective against future rust than satin).

Aye, I see where you're coming from with regards to painting, but it's only ever going to be for my eyes only in the flesh & I prefer the "purposeful" look   s:D :D s:D

Looks mighty fine to me!

Will the windscreen surround be staying that colour? I'm pretty sure its the only part which will remain exposed. I think it'd work well as it is.   s8) 8) s8)

Cheers chaps, the support really does mean a lot   s:) :) s:)

I'll be honest, I've absolutely no idea how I'm at a stage like this when it was purely meant to be a quick suspension refresh & sc 2zz swap.... over 2 years ago   s:oops:  s:oops:

I'm sure there'll be more hurdles to come but at least it's on the up now   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

Looks beautiful too me.
Wish I had the skill time and patience to do this.

This morning I did something that I never do - stop by the unit before work.... to trial fit my Meisters   s8) 8) s8)  Rears are the wrong way, probably the fronts as well, but I was rushing & didn't really care. I'm such a child   s:lol:  s:lol:
Also threw in the refurb'd dash bar whilst I was there.

Well the rebuild continues, slowly but surely. Few progress pics to keep things updated.

Lots of stainless fixings & various high tensile bolts needed ordering   s:lol:  s:lol:  God bless my digital calipers   s8) 8) s8)

All manner of parts going back in, including pedals, steering column, UJ, rack, brake servo/cyl, clutch master, alu rad with fans, roof seal ..... the list goes on   s:shock:  s:shock:  Including my stupidly high custom shifter bushes & extension  s:lol:  s:lol:  Man they look daft.
Also been patterning more brake lines & measuring up for a fan/demister system (weighing in at a hefty 750 grams!)

Couldn't scrub all the  sshit shit sshit e out of the washer bottle properly, so it's had 5 coats of plastic paint!   s:oops:  s:oops:  Seems to work though.
