Looking at AD08's on Tyre Leaders site.

205/50/15s are £89.00 with Rim Protection Bar and £84.50 without. and £74.60 on 185/55/15's - only have RPB option.

What is the benefit of having the bar (when being used as a track car)?

Does it improve stability etc or is it just in case of a blow out?

I thought it was just an extra bit of rubber sticking proud of the tyre to protect your alloy if you get too close the the kerb.

+1 , I believe that some tyres feature a protruding bead for this purpose, alternatively a separate bead can be fitted between tyre and rim these  are a solid plastic and come in various colours.

AlloyGators, they're called. A couple of instructors I know rate them.
Ex 2GR-FE roadster. Sold it. Idiot.  Now Jaguar XE-S 380. Officially over by the bins.

Of no benefit to a track car, it's just additional weight.

if you have no trouble parking, get the standard ones.
