They're basically the same car anyway! haha

Hope it all gets sorted soon Scotte.

And here's me thinking how good it was to have a local expert to fit a V6 in mine when I decide to do it!  :withstupid:

hmmmm....  I shall have to rethink my "support car" efforts clearly.. not too sure what kind of Audi is acceptable to you lot (if any even exists!)  - but in my defence it was going cheap!

Look at these gaskets.
No expense spared here.
Why bother with multi layer steel Toyota OEM gaskets when these are so good.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

That settles it.
Cylinders 2 and 3 leaking.
These gaskets just didn't like the boost.

Any other damage or just new decent head gasket required?

Looks good so far.
It will be having standard rebuild whatever.
Hopefully not serious bottom end work required.

I was expecting one side of the gasket to say "Kellogs"......

Sounds like the best news in the circumstances?

I am happy that we now know what the problem is rather than guessing.
It's proof that you can pass a sniffer test but still have a blown headgasket.
It probably only really let's go under boost or when it gets hot.

Kellogg's?
Probably been just as good.
I was under the impression that all the V6 swaps had MLS gaskets but maybe I am wrong.

Talk with Patrick about head bolts/studs.. might need a bit better for the boost?

As I thought, lifting when the chamber pressure goes up.

ARP head studs.
Not 1mz specific adapted from another application.

To be fair, at least 50% of the results to my search just now for 1mz returned fibre head gaskets. I don't think you can't hang an engine builder for using a fibre gasket on an NA engine.

but for a string of bodged engines..... you CAN draw a conclusion.

I wouldn't disagree and I am yet to see this gasket but someone who has seen hundreds of head gaskets has assured me this one is of very poor quality.
The picture below is what is going back on the motor.
A genuine OEM Toyota MLS headgasket.

At least you have found what the original problem was before it was too late. Now you can make everything 100% before putting everything back together

Another one won't hurt  .....

headcase

That's the part number of the MLS the gasket that is in it is what a aftermarket one looks like so a aftermarket headset is cheaper then Toyota one but don't use the head gaskets and replace with MLS one  because all the other gaskets in set are metal

After lots of humming and harring.
Watching YouTube videos about cheap wastegates has caused me to blow the dust off me wallet and get one of these

@1979scotte, as I mentioned previously when speaking with @dan944 and his mentioning of the kit on his 2, he explained the smoothing effect of the waste gate and how noticeable it was to the driver.
Would I be correct in thinking that the wastegate and /or BOV have this smoothing effect also on the engine? Equal and opposite reaction and all that.
So, could it be that these valves were not on Bee6 or where not operating at their optimum?
This being the case perhaps that is the root cause of your problem, the (I'll  call it )knock effect, at times found the weakest point of your engine.

1979scotte

@Joesson

The headgasket was going to give way with any form of forced induction they're were pony.
