First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

That's very open. Have you got a photo of the top of the piston? Just out of curiosity...

Sorry but they're down with Headcase so no photos although there must be some on Google.
Not sure what you mean by open.
We are lowering the compression ratio.

@1979scotte
Machining the cylinder head I believe typically increases the compression ratio, so how will this be lowered, by modifying pistons ( necessary I guess due to closer proximity of valves to piston heads) and/or modifying combustion chambers or has that already been done?

Skimming increases compression.  Removing metal from the combustion chamber does the opposite.  That is also 'machining the cylinder head'.

In this case, a light skim to ensure a good seal and then quite a bit of meat out of the combustion chamber.   :)

@Carolyn

Thanks for the clarification Carolyn. Is the skimming of the head light enough to keep  the valve heads away from the piston heads?
I can see now where the material has been removed from the combustion chamber. I seem to remember that this sort of volume adjustment was measured using a pipette, is that still the case?

headcase

When the head is skimmed the vavles are then seated further back in the head the combustion part of the head has been removed inceaseing the volume in the  so lowing cr  with have gained 21 cc of space so will bring the cr down to 8.5.1 from 10.5.1  should be able to push 10 psi with out a problem now [emoji16] Scott just have to update his brakes now to slow him down [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

@headcase  Thanks, I thought that just the head had been skimmed but with Carolyn 's and now your explanations I can see all is well.
In my youth such work was not unusual, but in my middle life my wheels were repmobiles , and was not aware of what was being done.
Now I'm more interested again there has been little or no " head work" being mentioned on this forum. I did think that perhaps modern design and manufacture of now generally alloy heads left little scope for improvement. Turbo or complete engine swops seem to be most popular so I'm interested that head work still has a place in improving performance.

Joesson

Having a problem stopping I'm sure will be a welcome change for Scotte. It's generally been a problem for him to keep going in the Bee6  ;)

Old skool no one machines stuff . Nowadays . This was a case of have to . So we can lower cr or it's pistons and rebore and a very big expense as 1 mzfe pistons are custom from USA the last set I fitted we're 1500 for pistons and 1000 for forged rods . Then machine work you are kissing good by to 5grand just on the block .

Won't having no Squish limit the boost it can run without detonation? Or is 10psi not so much?

Something's got to give somewhere and squish and quench are it.
