I've copy and pasted a quick bit of background about my car for those that are not familiar with it
Some of you may already know this car but I'm sure most wont so heres a little bit of its background in my ownership
I bought the car in early 2010 as a daily to replace my company car that wasn't being replaced due to the recession. Bought it so I didn't have to use my mk2 tubby and it was going to stay standard s:wink:  s:wink:
As I bought it
(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/v1nny1/PICT0020.jpg)
After a couple of months or so I found that the car suffered the old oval bore syndrome so I took it off the road to have the engine rebuilt.. Once the engine was back in the car and I was using it more I started to really love it, so I decided to do a bit of tidying up and light modding s:D :D s:D This included TRD front lip to match the sides and rear, new exhaust, koni adjustables, new wheels and tyres, TRD upper bracing, Cusco under bracing front middle and rear, Polybush kit, hard top, and various other bits and bobs
Car ended up looking like this
(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/v1nny1/DSC00485.jpg)
After a small time it seems that I was never using my tubby so I decided to sell it and turbo my mk3 s:D :D s:D So I managed to get my hands on a second hand C2 turbo kit and got that fitted s:) :) s:)
The car ran at around 200bhp ish for a while and I upgraded everything on the kit over time, including the turbo and exhaust and I had crower cams fitted. I'd also bought upgrade parts like Apexi PFC, charge cooler, bigger injectors for bigger power. Until early last year when I got a little bored of it and sold the engine and turbo kit on
JAE 2012 with El Creation front bumper
(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/v1nny1/527137_10151024421821646_1927630405_n3.jpg)
I then got talking to GeorgeL and ended up buying his mk2 turbo which I'd wanted since first seeing it in 2008 lol so the mk3 got washed and put in the corner at work under cover until a couple of weeks ago s:D :D s:D
I got myself a standard 1zz engine and pulled the car out and started working on it.. Over the christmas period we weren't too busy at work so I managed to replace both hand brake cables (which I bought about 2 years ago). I also got the box attached to the engine and into the car on all 4 mounts.. I'm a few pipes and bits missing which should be here today so I can crack on when I get time s:D :D s:D
How it stood earlier this year
(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/v1nny1/F7CCA862-FC0A-4549-A263-E94C8A1A92DD_zpsm2723u6i.jpg)
Managed to get the few bits I was missing last week and I got chance to spend a bit of time on the car yesterday..
Fitted the offside driveshaft with carrier, Finished off the water pipe work, fitted the fuel line, air box and pipe work, battery carrier, heat sheilds and finished off plugging the loom in. Also put the new gear oil in s:) :) s:)
Also got my exhaust manifold on with new studs, got the Nur Spec hanging on the rubbers and connected to the cat s:) :) s:)
Just need to fill and bleed the coolant, connect the cat to the manifold, fit the ecu and battery and turn the key and see what happens lol.. Once I know everything is tickety boo I'll do a bit of tidying up in the engine bay s:) :) s:)
Finished off the bits mentioned above a couple of months ago...
Which brings me to yesterday when I picked this little package up

It was a Woodsport conversion into a mk2 so I have a bit of modification to do to get it into my roadster s:D :D s:D
Come on Vinny, make your mind up s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes: s:lol:  s:lol: s:wink:  s:wink:
Too much choice Nic s:lol:  s:lol:
!SUBSCRIBED! s8) 8) s8)
Nic - I think he is going to start slowly increasing cylinders. The 2016 posts should make for very interesting reading! s8) 8) s8)
And I thought I was getting carried away with mine.
Will look on with the utmost interest.
If you change your mind again let me know please Vinny,I can pick your wheels up at the same time. :-) :-) :-)
Quick update
I have given this car to Stace (my wife) ... So instead of her just having my old car we are going to make it HER car by changing its appearance and obviously its heart s8) 8) s8)
New kit has been bought but we are undecided on weather to stick with the V6 or go 2zz turbo.. The plan is to have it ready by JAE 2016 at the latest
Couple of pics of how it should look
Monocraft GT300 s:D :D s:D

The kit was originally on a race car that was built for Britcar.. I'ts a little rough around the edges but has no cracks/splits or any real damage so should come good

[SMILING FACE WITH HEART-SHAPED EYES]
What a project! - Will be watching this closely.. I've had mine 3 weeks now and I am itching, bad case of moditus s:D :D s:D
I wondered who bought the kit!
Good work looking forward to it.
Has to be v6 surely
Currently experiencing the same sort of chin rubbing myself, stick with 2zz Rotrex plans or throw caution to the wind & 2grfe it!
Have you driven similar setups? I like the idea of having the 2gr torque curve & v6 bellow, but the screaming 2zz with jetfigher-esque Rotrex is pretty special as well s:roll:  s:roll:
If money was no object then I'd get a 2gr fitted to it but the cost doesn't justify the gains in my opinion
I've not driven a charged 2zz but a standard one with proper manifold makes a great car... You don't need massive power in a sorted roadster, around 200-220hp is a sweet spot
It's going to be up to Stace to decide what she wants tho, I'm just the monkey with the spanners s:lol:  s:lol:
Is that a 1mz above?
Here's how the Rotrex puts power down.... It's nice & linear, but that 6cyl sound & low down torque thump is very tempting. s:? :? s:?
Anyway, looking forward to seeing how this unfolds s:) :) s:)

Yeah it's a 1mz vvti from a lexus rx300
I know what engine I would choose!
The kit looks great, and I will be checking in on this thread to see the car develop.
Ha I bought the other kit. If your panels are the same as mine you will have some serious filling to do to make it right. What wheels are you going for on the kit? If you decide you don't want the side scoops let me know as I want some.
I have a friend that's just bought a wood sport converted roadster with the 3000 V6 in it so any pictures or measurements you need just let me know.
Well I'm hoping that as its already been fitted then some of the panels have already been modded. I can hope s:lol:  s:lol:
Might take you up on that dude. I have got a guy bringing his mounts my way so I can take patterns but I'll let you know s:) :) s:) cheers for that s:D :D s:D
Not sure on wheels yet.. I'd like something similar to the original wheels that came on the monocraft so may mean biting the bullet and ordering new s:shock:  s:shock:
Ordering new! Are you ok perhaps you should have a lie down. s;) ;) s;)
Great project please go for the V6.
You seen the price of them. But hey its got to be rihht
Vinny, I bought the large wheel spacers that Lewis used to run with that kit, but found I don't need them. Let me know if you want them.
Cheers
Miles
Yeah I know the price unfortunately... Made the mistake of showing some to Stace and now she loves them s:shock:  s:shock: we'll see s:) :) s:)
Miles yeah I may be interested in those as a get by for now solution even though I don't really like spacers... PM me how much please mate s:) :) s:)
real nice looking mr2 there buddy always liked black on black
cheers tommy
Well...you can't really go wrong with a V6.....! s8) 8) s8) s:wink:  s:wink:
I recon the VVT-i version is the best of the 1MZ engines. For a standard ish MR2, 230 bhp is definitely a sweet spot, not too full on, but nippy enough to get your attention, and with the right supporting mods, that engine should be good for that sort of output. Very drivable, sounds great too. 2GR is a very different animal in cost and output terms.

Wow! That'll be fun
Watching this, plan the same over winter if I can drag myself out of the S2000.
Nice!
Hoping to get cracking on this after my holiday in August... I checked the mot on the car last week and its almost up having done no miles since it was done s:lol:  s:lol: so thats first on the list, then engine s8) 8) s8)

i dont know your budget or how much you know about hondas but the engine and box to go for is the integra dc5 about 25 bhp more with factory lsd also no immobiliser if you are running the two ecus but it does come at a higher price,or you could just go full on k24 on k-pro for silly power s:D :D s:D s:D :D s:D s:D :D s:D ,will be watching this with interest
oh there is a big thread about mr2 k20 swapping on k20a.org the honda boys showing the mr2 some love lol
I don't really have a budget tbh, it costs what it costs... However I don't want to waste money just for an extra few hp.. If I wanted big power I'd stick a forged mk2 rev3 turbo lump in there like Lee has but I've already got 2 mk2 turbos, one running 300whp s:) :) s:)
I've had/driven many different roadsters with different engines and powers and 200hp is perfect for it IMO.... Especially as it is now the wifes car s:lol:  s:lol:
I've already got the donor car s8) 8) s8) Paid just under £1200 for it and I should pull some of it back on the interior, wheels, aftermarket bits, etc

Thought about that at some point myself but decided against it. I'm running a Hybrid Racing universal conversion harness. The temp gauge doesn't work but I use my Hondata Ap for that or an obd1 reader inked to an android device. People have done the wiring for this swap in a number of ways. You just have to find one that'll work out easiest for you.

Oh, a refurbed cover does make a whole lot of difference! I will be pulling the motor out next year for phase 2. I may just paint it if I have time and put a silver rocker cover on from a 2l non type r or k24 for that stock look.
I look forward to your build thread mate s:) :) s:)
Just ordered a few bits s:) :) s:)
Innovative engine mounts
Innovative shifter mechanism
Custom drive shafts
P&P wiring harness
Getting a price for a timing belt kit tomorrow from Honda, then it will be off to Mrtwos for that to be done while I'm waiting for the above bits to arrive.... Along with a nice bill for import tax s:( :( s:(

Try Tegiwa for timing chain parts, genuine Honda parts at much better prices.
Cheers dude, will do s:D :D s:D
Tegiwa and Jap Service Parts, or H-Tune even. You can use either for Honda parts.
What are you doing for the exhaust header?
Cheers dude I'll have a look at those too s:) :) s:)
I'm not fully decided on header yet, I'm going to get the engine in place first and maybe see if I can mod the original one to fit... Failing that I may just get a flange and make something but I'm a fair way off that stage yet anyway
I looked at a cheaper option first before getting an over the top manifold made, and after a bit of research I was planning to buy a Japspeed EP3 s/s manifold (recommended by the EP3 community) and modify to fit. The prices seemed reasonable (£150 ish from memory). If you're happy with a welder it's definitely do able s:) :) s:)
I've seen noticeable gains from the standard to even a relatively cheap 2.5 inch s/s one, the standard one really strangles it!
An oem ep3 header won't fit and neither is it worth the hassle of reworking it. Make sure you get a large silencer or two smaller ones. The car will be very loud otherwise and probably restrict you from ever getting onto a track.
My exhaust was made by a friend and ex-colleague in Birmingham. He didn't charge much for the labour once I'd got the raw material for him and told him how I wanted it. We also used a K swap header (meant for a Honda to Honda swap) and fabricated it.
This is a sound clip with a relatively small, straight-through Magnaflow silencer:

Yes that's the sort. Or something like the below:
m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160818927946 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160818927946) m
I used one like that, but thankfully the secondaries were short on it to begin with, so they required hardly any modification. It did require the sub-frame to be trimmed though, albeit superficially.
The Japspeed header above would probably work as well; I've seen similar headers used in 2zzge swaps on this forum.
The exhaust on mine does sit a little on the low side but other than that the PPE mainfold works well.
To be honest though its going to be cheaper to make up this side of the pond.

Asides from the cost, perhaps, that lloks like a pretty neat system. I can't imagine it being too loud either.

Is that the lightweight Fidanza you are considering?
Definitely made a difference over the standard and I'd say worthwhile (no vibration at all and definitely frees up the revs nicely). Worth considering the Clockwise version as that is the lightest of the lot and I think similarily priced.

Got all the parts back from paint today and I'm very pleased s:D :D s:D All I've got left to be done are the rocker cover and one of the heater knobs that I'd forgot to take round the first time :th:

Nice colour Vinny, bet you picked it really s:) :) s:)
Mmmmmmmmmm lurple s:-D :-D s:-D
Any progress with the actual engine?
I suppose technically I was involved with picking it.. She said sparkly purple so I found 5 different options and she chose the most expensive s:lol:  s:lol:
Not really touched it yet, we are fitting a new kitchen at work and I'm having a big clear out so I'm trying not to start anything 'big' at the moment... Should be back on it in a week or so s:D :D s:D

That's a nice plate! Some Type R owners would love that.
Had a few hours on the engine last week and this.. Removed the loom ready to clean up, removed the gearbox to find a new clutch (I'll still fit my new one anyway) removed the inlet manifold and random brackets, removed the alternator and water pump housing so I have pretty much a bare block
Used several brass brush bits in the dremmel to clean off the block and painted with matt black VHT paint.. Removed the cam cover and dropped off at the painters and removed the timing chain cover ready for Nathan to do the chain kit.. Also painted the timing chain cover matt black
Again used several brass brushes to clean off the box and the inlet manifold ready for paint.. Painted the box matt black VHT to match the block and the inlet manifold has been painted in metalic black VHT paint, nowt fancy just keeping it clean looking s:) :) s:)
I picked up an aftermarket manifold that had been made up for a mk2 escort K20 conversion for £20 to see if I can do anything with it.. I've also picked up some fuel pipe and some an6 fuel fittings and clamps
I'm off to Honda tomorrow to test drive the new TypeR so I'll be picking up a new water pump, thermostat, gaskets and a couple other bits and bobs while I'm there s:) :) s:)

Good going on the manifold! Coming along nicely now. It looks like you may be able to manipulate and alter the manifold to your liking upon the secondaries, and have the exhaust come up and through a silencer and over to the side and down. A bit like this but the opposite:

I don't really have a set date tbh, I'm just doing bits when I can and ordering bits as I go along and find what's needed/wanted s:) :) s:)
Although I am going to a RR day on 20th Feb so would be nice to get it to that if possible
We will watch this space then. :-) :-) :-)
This and a few fuel line fittings arrived today. shame I'm too lazy to get out there and carry on with it s:lol:  s:lol:

Finally got the 1zz out of the car today as its sold and being collected tomorrow
I'll be removing a few other bits and bobs tomorrow to be powder coated, then I should be cracking on with getting the new engine in s:) :) s:)

Can't believe how long its been since I updated this, and the car is still on the ramp s:lol:  s:lol:
The engine is now in the car on all its mounts. The gear selector is on and the gear cables attached. I've modified the wiring harness to match the roadster positive and negative terminals and to go into the engine bay fuse box. I've also modded the wiring inside the engine bay fuse box. I've made a custom fuel line and got that fitted along with custom water pipe work and clutch line (clutch needs bleeding). The engine and box are full of oils and the water system is full and bled (both engine oil and water will both be replaced once tested)
ECU and P+P harness are installed and I've tapped the wire into the kick plate plug as necessary but I'm waiting on an immobiliser delete to arrive so I can get it started
I've ordered a Japspeed exhaust manifold to modify to suit
I've picked up a K&N Typhoon induction kit for an EP3 which fits great but just needs painting
All the bits I've had powder coated are here, some fitted and some waiting. I also picked up a carbon bonnet from Alex which is sitting in place but not 'fitted' yet
So still a lot to do but we are getting there slowly s:D :D s:D
Ignore the temp cam breather pipe s:lol:  s:lol:

Wow it has been a long time lol
Been wrapped up in other cars and life but this is now back on the ramp and is getting finished at last
ECU has been sent off to get a Hondata Kpro 4 installed and should be back with me by mid week I hope :)

No point in rushing these things mate!! @vinp182 (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13122)
Wondered if you'd given up Vin.
Nope not given up just had other things to do. Being out on this years Highland Drive with the couple of mk3's has given me a bit of inspiration tho
Any chance of a ding day appearance? :)
Doubt it'll be done by then :(
Stu wasn't specific about which Ding Day, it 's an annual event ;)
Wow its really been a while hasn't it?
This is potentially for sale (not 100% if I really want to or not) so if anyone is interested then I'll do a proper for sale ad
Yes, it has been a while!
I am sure it would be best to do a proper ad with full details of the car now and the all important asking price.
