Further to my post regarding fitting retrimmed interior to Patsy's 2. I've had to refit the new seat base & back to the original rails due to reasons.

I've done the base but I'm missing a trick on how to do the seat back properly while getting the tilt recline lever to operate properly.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Must be something simple I'm not seeing as there isn't much there.

Not sure if the same seat related issue.

But I recall @bobbe had a mare of time getting things to line up, then it just did, having done nothing different to what she had been doing before.

Try this thread on Spyderchat. It is about installing Celica seats, but the same techniques apply.  The PDF has pictures.

Installing Celica Seats

I finally managed it today.

There's a bar/tube that slots through the bottom of the seat back with a tab at either end that slots into the recline mechanism.

I pulled that out the seat back & offered it up to the base to see where the tabs fit into the mechanism. Wasn't making sense so pulled the bar out the old seat's back. Tabs on that bar looked different so guessed it was a different mech.
But...
Why?
Looked at both bars together & realised the tabs on the bar must have been knocked skew- wiff in whatever accident that car had been in.

Onwards from there. Put the undamaged bar/tube through the seat back & with some patience & various attempts I managed to line it all up & put it back together.

In hindsight it would have been a good opportunity to put together a "how to".
Apologies, however it was becoming such a pig I was glad to just get it done.

My tip would be to remove the bar/tube from the seat back & install it in the mech to let you see how it goes in. Don't worry if the tab is very slightly off the mech from one side to the other, as the first operation once the seat back is on has that audibly click into place.

Yes this was a problem! It seemed to be more luck than anything else that it came together eventually, so I can't even offer any tips. I wouldn't be rushing to remove and try to refit a seat back again unless I absolutely had to...

@cptspaulding sorry I've only seen this now :( H had problems with the bar when he fitted the Celica seats in Oldie and he probably would have been able to offer some help.

Glad you got it sorted (saw the new interior on fb!)
