Headcase is making great progress with my car. Fully recon 2zz in car, new rings , shelves, oil pump and gears etc. Stage 2 cams and Rotrex. Link storm ECU.Charge coole.r Car running today. got to finish off stuff before it goes to get mapped. Hardest part is that I have got to run it in before final map...
Is that yours? Its going to be a beast.
It is!, My get it back end next week, then got to run it in before final map
Any projection on hoped for numbers
In the region of 300 bhp is what i would be looking for.
Run it in properly.
Pat will know if you dont.
Hopefully just above 300
Quote from: "KRAMSNEHPETS"Hopefully just above 300
Is that with the stock high compression pistons?
Stock internals. Engine has been out and had a full rebuild, rings, shelves, oil pump, chain, gears, vvti unit etc. Have got to run it in
Picking up car tomorrow afternoon. Got to run it in though with the rev limit set at 4000....Got to get 1000 miles on it asap to then return for final map to release the full potential!
Hope you have planned a road trip, let's get those miles done as quick as you can s:) :) s:)
Going to daughters armed forces day sat, 250 round trip, 100 miles on dyno, 180 to headcase and back. 530! will try and get the rest done within 2 weeks!
1000 miles required to run new engine in done in a week.4000 rpm limit on a safe map. Car now back with headcase to sort a few things out, dashpod with display etc. Going for dyno and full map to release mall those horses. Hope to collect car sat!
Sounds great! When do we get to see pictures?
Fingers crossed for some good numbers at the end, in the USA there are a few 2zz rotrex mr2s (as I'm sure you know) and on c30-94 they seem to make about 350whp, so on UK dyno it's about that same number at the fly from most comparisons I've seen... Should be properly potent!!
did you make the supercharger brackets or buy them?
Headcase made them. He is also going to rotrex his wifes car soon as well. Car going for dyno tomorrow! Looking forward to a good new phone call or message!
Quote from: "keljon"did you make the supercharger brackets or buy them?
Headcase has a few lying around if you want one.
I think rotrex have a guide to help you make your own.

Has it been on the dyno yet????
Car has spent pretty much all day on the dyno, results are 349bhp at the flywheel and a nice flat torque curve of 248. Am collecting it Sat!
It's gonna be a beast!!!
you know it!
I'm excited for you s:) :) s:)

Buying a set off him to stash away for later on
That's going to be a fun drive!
That does sound like a lot of fun. Would like to see it do a 1/4 mile one day.
Might do it one day. what you think it might do?
I would think you'd be in the 11s.
Stripped down slightly it might get into the 11s, probably mid to low 12s, i'm going the turbo 1ZZ route so I can adjust the power levels.

Glad your pleased it's big power no doubt.
Have to be honest didn't think a stock 2zz could make that sort of power reliably.
Also that's about as much torque as a c series box is going to hold.
Have fun with it.
Don't loose your licence.

Rough theoretical figures for RWD 349 BHP and kerb weight of 1050kg
Power to Weight: 338 bhp/ton
0-60: 4.1
0-100: 8.9
60-100: 4.8
1/4 Mile ET: 12.16
1/4 Mile Terminal: 116
Dragstrip 1/4 Mile ET: 11.96
Mid engine could give you a bit more on launch.
My mental comparison is a 300bhp 240z I know. 1100kg and about 12.4 ET.

Gutted that my prediction was so far off!! s:lol:  s:lol:
American dynos make me laugh, about a 10-15% over read compared to ours.
Good figures and I'm sure it'll go like stink, I bet can't wait for tomorrow!

More power less weight and mid engine could see mid 11 seconds based on that.
Ok I've waited half a day what's it like?
+1 enlighten us!
Was great to meet you today Mark and to see your car, enjoy.

Have been out and about on some private roads. Its quick! Not a big rush like a turbo. Very driveable , no rear end drama. Just pulls strong through the whole rev range, Really comes alive when you start going above 5000 rpm. 70-100 take 6 seconds. Don't get time to look at the speedo to much as it as things happen pretty quickly!
Its the way to go. Headcase has done a great job with it. He will soon be doing his wifes car as he has already purchased the parts and made the brackets etc. Who is going to go for it next?

My V6 is going to be done in February.
Going to try and run it on stock ECU at 4/5 psi.
Rotrex V6!?
V6 Rotrex, I need another car....
It will be way slower than yours even if I had a stand alone rods are like the 1zz break too easily.
I only want 280bhp anyway but I also want torque which is where the V6 wins for me.
I've got a C30-74 sat on a shelf, should be good for 270 or so, though maybe I should sell it at get a -94. We've just bought a new car with a loan which does not so good mpg as the one it replaces, so depending on how out finances pans out maybe in the next year I'll be going rotrex as well... However I want to do some single round entries in time attack in the 200sx, and secretly I prefer my brother to drive that (we joint own) and I'll use the MR2...
What the intended use of the 2zz rotrex then? Just fast road, or some track days as well?
Might go to snetterton one day. Public day at Santa pod 19th August. Might book it
Sounds good, if you're thinking of going to Bedford give a shout, will have to get myself along also.

FYI my stock 1zz with 175k on the clock at stock weight ran a 15.86 on Saturday for a comparison, I might also be running on the 12th or 19th August as well but need to check the diary.
I aim to be there for 9am sat 19th August
Quote from: "KRAMSNEHPETS"I aim to be there for 9am sat 19th August
I would suggest getting there before the gates open and make your way round to the warm up lane and then go to the sign up office, I have found that if you get there early you can usually get a run in and then go back to the warm up lane and be racing again within 5 minutes, managed to get 3 runs done in around 20 minutes on Saturday, mid morning it was more like 1 run every half an hour.

Good advice.
And remember to take a helmet. Your terminals are very likely to be above 110.

You're going to surprise a lot of people with that stock looking MR2 with a few TTE trim parts s:lol:  s:lol: looks like a well thought out install s:) :) s:)
As we are postings pictures do we have a Dyno printout?
Are you running a wastegate or bov setup how many psi.
ia0 dyno.jpg ia0 [/attachment:3jehozmu]
Very nice. I don't understand the lambda line - seems to be saying lambda goes from 0.3 to 0.6 which doesn't make sense. How should I read that?
I have no idea!
Rotrex make for a lovely looking plot on the graph.
Really can't wait for mine.
You do not feel that its that quick at first because of the way it builds up the power, not a "turbo"rush, very linear. 40-60MPH 3 seconds. Going to take it to Santa Pod 19th August so that I can really open it up and get some solid numbers of what it can do
What are your V6 standard numbers for torque and bhp?
OEM spec is 194bhp and 209 ft-lb.
I will get it on a Dyno at some stage.
I know it doesn't feel as good as Headcases rebuilt MK2 1MZ.

I drove a Ferrari F430 previously and it didn't feel that quick (in the context of my expectation that it would tear my face off) as that had very linear delivery as well.. But it will make it an absolute weapon on a track or when driven hard - you'll be able to get on the throttle so confidently I imagine! Just done the sums and your car will have a slightly better power to weight than the F430, nice!
ia0 racelogic.jpg ia0 [/attachment:2y36os4m]Little update. Car back with headcase to sort out a small oil leak. Also new fuel pump, rail and regulator has been fitted as the factory set up could not deliver enough fuel above 7500rpm. Car going for a final tune to set it up for 8500 rpm
Bought a racleogic timing device which is a great toll to measure your performance and any improvement made to the car
Hope to collect sat
Glad to hear you're going for an uprated fuel pump. I was chatting to Patrick about the spec and we were talking about a Bosch 044 being a worthwhile upgraded, is that what you're going for?
Don't know what he has fitted, Is going to fit switch to clutch pedal to set up launch control as well
Factory fuel pump is never going to cope with that output! I have a Walbro, I think 255lph.
M25 6.20AM this morning on way to headcase for some work to be done . strange noise followed by engine missing a "beat" then cut out!. Joined AA at road side for recovery. Rotrex has lost all its oil and seized....... With Headcase now. Looks like internal failure. On holiday for a week now so going to forget about it for a week!Hopefull sorted when I get back! Engine appears to be OK
Ouch s:( :( s:( wonder how that happened
Sorry to hear this.
Curious to know what has happened.
looks like internal case by the impeller broken , going back to rotrex for a warranty , no bits got to engine , charger of and already back on the way to them on Thursday . hopefully have it back shortly ,
Excellent news. Well. As good as news can get given the situation.
What rpm is the rotrex rated for? Guessing it might have gone overspeed if you are revving to 8.5k?
Quote from: "m1tch"What rpm is the rotrex rated for? Guessing it might have gone overspeed if you are revving to 8.5k?
Unlikely.
You tell TTS your max engine revs and crank pulley size and they send you the appropriate pulley for the unit.
It it's been over spun it will be their fault.
FYI peak impeller speed on the unit in question a C30 94 is 100000 rpm.

Will be interesting to see what the failure was then, the drive ratio is 1:9.49 so at 8.5k rpm its spinning up at 80,665 rpm so well within limits.
Also just noticed they offer a VC8 variable RPM supercharger - electric motor driven supercharger - although only for the very smallest size, might be an interesting development.

The way I understand it you have a pulley on the rotrex which means it hits 100k rpm impeller speed at 8500 rpm engine speed.
It uses an adjustable BOV to bleed off boost above a certain threshold which on this setup is 13psi I think.
Will be having the same thing on the V6 but much less boost.

Rotrex has been returned to the factory for them to look at. Looks like it make have cracked internally. As some one has already mentioned, fitted with correct size pulley etc, supplied by them so am not expecting any issues with a replacement
Whilst with Headcase, full poly bushing done and 4 new brake calipers fitted. Not much left to be renewed now!
Been a long time but am collecting car from headcase in the morning. New calipers and a working handbrake, polybushing and a new rotrex charger fitted. Been without car for 3 months due to dispute about the rotrex unit failure. Was told that it was not a warranty failure....... Much credit to Headcase who in the end got a replacement unit under warranty

Hope you can take lots of videos and pictures for us.... Andy

Can't believe how long this has taken or how difficult rotrex have been about it.
It's the same as mine all components sourced from TTS an official authorized rotrex dealer.
Great product completely let down by rubbish customer service.
Here's hoping for a trouble free future.
Best of luck.
Fun drive back today?
Glad you finally managed to get it replaced under warranty - credit to Patrick as well for arguing it!
Hope the pick up went smoothly s:) :) s:)
Today, Taking my Aussie brother in law for a spin, pull away from lights at motorway roundabout, old girl in Suzuki Wagon comes sailing through a red light, anchored up in time for her to miss me!!!!!. 3 Mins later, big rear end moment on slightly damp road on cold tyres when I booted it in second!!!
Apart from that all seems to be good again. Just now need to get the map altered to match the new fuel pump. Also need to get 5th gear sorted. Bought box with 5 celica 2zz gears with an MR2 6th gear in it, Turns out that I appear to have and MR2 5 gear in the box, Bit of a drop when you change from 4th to 5th when at the red line.
Feels tighter now with the poly bushed suspension as well .
Think I have now reached the point where there is now nothing left to do to the car
Yeah, at that power level, 2nd needs caution even in the dry. Keeps you on your toes!
Quote from: "KRAMSNEHPETS"Think I have now reached the point where there is now nothing left to do to the car
Digi dash s;) ;) s;)
Got a nav pod with digi display in it!
Great to hear the cars back on the road Mark lets hope for some nice dry sunny days
Day of confusion!
Went to get a tweak on the rolling road to get the best out of it since having a new fuel pump fitted. first run 187 at the wheels taking into account that a 20% reduction from flywheel to wheels would make it 235. Bit surprised as i have a printout from the same rolling road showing 349, less your 20 making it 279!
Was advised that there must have been an error on that print out. Did wonder why it didnt feel as quick as i tbought it should feel!
after a few tweaks is now at 277. at the wheel 221. 42 bhp gained. feels a bit quicker on ride home. will try and do a couple of runs with the race logic at some point
