Title: Electric rear spoiler
Post by: Essex2Visuvesi on July 25, 2017, 19:09
Having silly thoughts at work today
Started wondering if you could fit an Boxter style electric rear spoiler to the back of the Mr2

Then I found this on ebay:-
(http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/YvoAAOSwSzRZVPBN/s-l1600.jpg)

The sum of 50quid was duly paid and now I await delivery
Since I no longer have the Main exhaust system taking up space behind the bumper I have a bit of free space to play with

Will it work?
God knows

Can't blame me for that idea.
I don't even like spoilers on roadsters.

YOu're bonkers. You don't even have a working car!

All extra weight!!! - The beauty of the 2 - Is that it is aerodynamic - light bodied - a power plant that gives a steady ride - To add that junk would be criminal!!

It's controlling it that will be the issue. Are you just going to have it raise at a certain speed ?

I'm totally at odds with myself here.

As a non modder
I agree with others above re, extra mass and controling it.
And yet, I appluad your phuket it, I'm doing it outlook.

Well played, and look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
Not to mention only £50. Only 1 1/2 bottles of nyetimber.

Thanks guys, started off as a bit of a Hmmm... I wonder, followed by a oh its only 50 quid and if I cant get it to work I can probably chuck it back on ebay and make my money back
No Idea how I'm going to control it yet
Might have a switch, or speed controlled.... no idea Will wait till it arrives and have a play

I have played with this idea as well. But then thought weight, motors hanging over a blazing hot engine bay, all the electrics..weight...

Look forward to seeing what you make of it though!

Always thought a speed activated spoiler was an iffy idea. The police only have to look at the back of certain cars, and they know whether they're going over 60...

It will probably be button activated to start with until I have it working properly

First off non modder last time I checked your car was running 50 extra bhp and has a canvas roof.
Second nyetimber. Far too expensive for what it is Jason.

Correct attitude.
Although it is added high up and on the extreme rear.
My V6 still handles lovely and has great traction because of the extra weight.

I may be a little different to most
For me it's the journey... the building and the figuring out is what I enjoy
My son and and I used to Race RC cars and I took more pleasure in the building and setting up of the cars as opposed to the actual racing.
Same reason why I have built RC submarines, planes and god knows what else. Always the same tho... build them, test them, then use once or twice, place on shelf, then sell on to fund the next big idea

Details details. The extra 50bhp is a manufactures optional extra rather than a mod.
the roof was already on, so not down to me.
I will fess up to some 80s day glow funky glow stick green braided lines. That was down to supplier and could not be arsed to change. Saying that, you cannot see themnunless down at hub level.

I say good on you for pushing the boundaries. Explore, innovate and discover, if it doesn't work out, buy a replacement engine lid and bumper and you're back to stock. Will be interesting to see how you get on!

if not spoiler , electric opening frunk!

That's actually something I looked at, just get an actuator, hooked up to the door locks, and get it to unlatch the frunk on double clicking unlock. Adding some gas struts and this car would be about twice as practical

Obviously you'd still need to click it manually once, to have the two step latch safety
