Title: Interior switch lights
Post by: Top down on January 19, 2018, 22:28
I've just brought a 2006 mk3 and noticed a few of the switches don't illuminate ( window, wing mirror switch. Are they easy to replace and do I go to Toyota for parts. Many thanks

Mine don't either. Don't think they're meant to?

Nope, they're just straightforward switches shoved into the trim panel. I've toyed with the idea of fitting illuminated ones but not sure how you'd supply the power? I imagine if it were easy then everyone would do it. You'll soon learn by feel though, especially when your passenger window won't work...

Saw something ages ago where someone had installed a hidden red LED into the metal bend of the arm rest which shone over that area and the ignition barrel. Tricky wiring unless it was just permanently illuminated on IGN.

I imagine there's a way to take a feed from the dashboard instruments but you'd need aftermarket switches or find some Mr T ones from a more upmarket motor...

That's the Colin Chapman/ Lotus influence "simplify then add lightness"
