Title: Engine management light
Post by: AndPow68 on February 10, 2018, 12:07
An OBD check indicates a MIL trot code -  P0135 (01/01) - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction. I understand this is the precat sensor on the right hand side of the manifold. Based on other members experiences is it sensible to change both precast sensors at the same time as Mr T wants £125 + VAT per sensor and although I'm reluctant to pay out so much I kinda get the feeling you get what you pay for when it comes to o2 sensors. I'm going to get this sorted quickly but wondered would I be creating other significant issues by driving it (38 miles/day commute) until the fault had been corrected.  Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

It's unlikely to creat any other issues by driving while the EML is on - as you've had it diagnosed, although you will want to get it sorted as soon as possible.

New 'Denso' sensors can be bought for around £60 and aren't difficult to replace if you're handy with some spanners - if not, maybe another member close by could assist?

Personally, I would just change the faulty one.

It's only the O2 sensor heater so nothing to really worry about.
Easy to change yourself.
I wouldn't worry about changing the other two sensors they don't all go at the same time.
Buy genuine DENSO senors from sparkplugs.co.uk or Amazon.
Personally I wouldn't let my car anywhere near a main Toyota dealer.

Surely someone from the Welsh contingent can help you out if you order a new sensor from sparkplugs.co.uk

I do have an O2 sensor socket.

It is a very easy job (if you can get it undone) so probably one of the few things I could help with!

Fit a 15R high wattage resistor onto the 2 black (I think) wires on the sensor - worth getting a cheap OBD reader to check the actual sensor itself it working - I have 2 O2 sensors with failed heaters but work perfectly in terms of voltage when up to temp.

I have an o2 socket you could borrow, depending on your collection time from steve@D1
