Title: OBDII readers
Post by: BenF on June 18, 2005, 16:12
Since installing my PE turbo kit, I've had a CEL - reading it at Millway it gave an O2 sensor heater error. Having recently refitted new O2 sensors it still is throwing a CEL within 5 seconds of restarting the engine  s:( :( s:(  but now I can't read the source of the CEL.

I've been doing some searching around, and found a few OBDII readers via Google and also mentioned here:

Digimoto (tempting as they do Pocket PC software too):-
 m http://www.digimotosales.com/shop/?shop ... 070&cat=1& (http://www.digimotosales.com/shop/?shop=1&cart=1070&cat=1&) m

and various others available in the USA.

However, this is the one I'm leaning towards getting :
 m http://www.gendandirect.co.uk/viewprodu ... uct=STNISO (http://www.gendandirect.co.uk/viewproduct.php?product=STNISO) m

With this software:
 m http://scantool.net/software/scantool.net/index.shtml (http://scantool.net/software/scantool.net/index.shtml) m

It seems to provide some neat real-time stats viewing of the status of the ECU - this could make a nice in-dash display with an old Pocket PC picked up from eBay ....

Are there any other ODBII readers that people would recommend considering?

Slacey recommended one of these and I've bought one for myself, hasn't arrived yet though.

(I think it was Slacey, it was on SC and get there right now)

I have both the digimoto and the scantool software (Both use the same hardware interface) and of the 2, I prefer the digimoto... For simply downloading codes though, both are equally good...

Cheers - that is very cheap!

I do fancy one with a PC or PDA link though as I'm tempted to use it to use it initally to read the Error codes, but then have it installed more perminantly to provide general monitoring facilities.

Ta - Checking the Digimoto the software can be purchased for the equivalent of £16, something I may well do. Looks like i'll be buying the Gendan direct reader then ..

Just for info - here's the software that reads the output from the diagnositics :

 m http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/ (http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/) m

Versions for PC, Palm and Pocket PC - I can see me getting my PocketPC setup with this, at risk of more wiring spagetti everywhere ...!
