Are there parts of the undercarriage and suspension that ought to be lubricated as part of a general maintenance routine?  If so, which ones and what would you use on them?

From memory, the suspension joints are all dry or sealed for life apart from the front strut top bearings, which used to have a tendency to dry out occasionaly.

The one thing I would be particular with is the steering column joint under the bonnet, when the lubrication on this joint dries, it can effect steering feel, and detract from the whole experience of driving the car. It tends to get negelected, as it lives under the plastics...

As for lubricant, I have no particular reccomendation.
