Well I received my red gear knob and gaiter from Rhona in the affiliates section  l viewtopic.php?f=53&t=28432 l  and went about fitting it after reading markiii's excellent how to guide here   l viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12545&p=153381&hilit=gear+gaiter#p153381 l ,
this took about half an hour to do.
