Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I just put mine in the front grill, original holes were behind the De-Dimplator, and I didn't want to make holes in that when I fitted it:

Doesn't interfere with the cooling, but the last MOT muppet did put a comment on that it "might be difficult to see" ( a bonus for any speed cameras that may be lurking   s:wink:  s:wink:  )

This is all Ardent's fault   s:? :? s:?
I've been reading the Regulations   s:evil:  s:evil:
The front plate must be vertical or as near as practical to the vertical.  Also the plate must comply with BS (blah blah)  s:( :( s:(   which effectively means it cannot be legal if from a non-registered supplier.  AU 145d is the blah blah   s:wink:  s:wink:
The front plate must be surprisingly, at the front of the vehicle   s:oops:  s:oops:
FIN got an advisory on a maybe, but there is a test based on a relevant area, described on the ground.  The plate needs to be readable from within a square with its corner at the vertical centre of the said plate.  The diagonal of the square from that corner, being 21.5 metres and parallel with the centre line of the vehicle  s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:

This is why the offset Alfa Mito complies, but is a  sbastard bastard sbastard  to get into number recognition carparks   s:evil:  s:evil: .

Dear jock
I found entering number plate recognition car parks an absolute breeze in my Alfa Mito.
Getting out. That's another story.   s:crazyeyes:  s:crazyeyes:

is yours standard font n space but minimal surround?
Just saw this. The letters on mine are slightly smaller than standard. Not strictly legal but I have never been pulled for it. 'Touch wood'  s:) :) s:)

Next question is you plate a rigid or stick on? If stick on, where from? and what font/plate size?

Cheers

I recently cut down the front plate on our sable.

After

Totally legal, subtle enough and pleased with it.
*Disclaimer: the oil on the drive is from my old mk2 Golf, not the MR2  s;-) ;-) s;-)

Brick? Number plate mount? I removed it during the process, but didn't like the look of the plate screwed straight onto the bumper. I actually like the fact that the plate is now narrower than the mount behind it; it highlights the fact that the plate is smaller than standard, which does it for me   s:D :D s:D

From a traffic officers mouth when he pulled me over for this...

https://youtu.be/9uV9NgXjbDI

plates cannot be stick on as they must be reflective,

they must be vertical and forward of the front axle (evo's alfa's etc)

you only need the kite mark on vehicles produced after 2001 (51 plate)

Problem with speaking to traffic officers:
two moveable parts; interchangeable  and both orifices   s:lol:  s:lol:
Back to the law:
reflective has now't to do with method of fixing;
vertical is correct but the law refers to the "front" of the vehicle - no mention of axle; see previous of 21.5m on the parallel; and
kite mark refers to date of plate production, not the vehicle: and does not specify on the face   s:wink:  s:wink:  .

Having said that Ardent ( wake-up  s:x :x s:x  ):
There is a margin of error so that a 79mm high letter with 11 mm border gives (shit where's the abacus   s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:  ).  Got it ok, 101mm becomes 100mm   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

Smaller is getting better   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:    s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:    s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

All good stuff.

As a general open question, has anyone on here been pulled for a small plate?
