It's in there as part of an article of £20k (new or used) drivers cars.

The other cars are:

Honda NSX
TVR Cerbera
Skyline R33
Maserati 3200GT
Lotus Exige
BMW M5
Ford Escort Cosworth
VW Golf GTI
Mazda MX-5
Subaru Impreza WRX
Renault Clio 182

Haven't read it yet, but the '2 is an 04 model and looks nice in red with dual exhaust  s:) :) s:)

Yeah, basically it's what you can get for 20K – new or old. How many 'bangs per buck'. The 12 original cars get whittled down to six, which are then taken to Wales. The '2 comes third, I believe (I've only skim read it so far), which in this exaulted company, is amazing!  s:D :D s:D

It wasn't clear reading it what they placed where... just that the M5 and TVR were about the MR2 and that the Golf GTI was below it.  So it's possible that the MR2 came in 5th... or 3rd.

Does show though that if it's the best sub £20K drivers car... until you start factoring in second hand older models.

Didn't make it into the top 6 - "it's impending obsolecence dealt it a fatal blow..".

Quite how having a new model suddenly makes the old model obsolete is a mystery to me.   s:roll:  s:roll:

Sounds about right for EVO these days.  Surely most of the second hand cars for under £20k are also obsolete on that basis.

Evo's write up of the MR2 is the most complementary I've read in ages. It came 3rd, with the TVR and M5 beating it. Wow!  s8) 8) s8)

it rates up there with the s1 exige:  "With steering feel that only the Exige can eclipse, brake feel up there with the Skyline (and none of the dafe), and a throttle-led stance that many M5 owners will never have the space or nerve to exploit, the little MR2 really is a delight."

I'm heading to the 'Ring with an M5 at the end of the moth, so I'll let you know my comparisons then...   s:wink:  s:wink:

When I read it I thought it was Andy100's car.

I seemed to remember a post a while back asking for a car for a photo shoot.

A search found that his was in edition 73, not 78.

Oh well.

I got the impression the MR2 came 4th or 3rd place depending on how you were going to use it.

Skyline in 5th ("...Even cheaper R32 version would fulfil the role just as well...")
Exige in 4th (up to 3rd, 2nd or 1st "...[not] an everyday usable proposition..." or  "...£20k toy...")
MR2 in 3rd. (I might have a little bias   s:oops:  s:oops:  )
Cerbera 2nd.
M5 1st.

Having skimmed the article earlier this evening I was very impressed by the 2's placing in such company.
Could the colour have helped it's lofty position  s:wink:  s:wink:

Just got the magazine, a very accurate write up on the 2 I thought.

Do we know if the car was standard?  It had twin exhausts so wondering if anything else had been done.
