hi all,
Thinking of fitting side skirts to my 2001 roadster,want the toyota tte/gb ones but as you know very hard to source,been looking online and found glass fibre products which are supposed to be exact replicas,has any one ordered a set of these and can they tell me if they were good fit and easy to fit,also how are the original side skirts secured

Topdownman

I have those on my car.

They are quite a bit of work to fit and this involved me sanding down the inside edges of each skirt so that they would fit on the car. I found it impossible to get them to go on just by offering them up to the car so once I had sanded off enough for them to fit, I secured one end by drilling through the skirt and the wing and using small self tappers to hold in place then did the same at the rear. Once I was happy they would fit, I took them off and then glued on with Tigerseal and put the screws back on to hold in place while it cured.

The original plastic ones would just fit on but as the GF ones are moulded from the originals, they are thicker being GF so hence the need to sand down.

There are a couple of pictures on my build thread which may help?

Definitely worth doing though!

As above

GF will fit with a bit of persuasion, just dont expect a factory fit, I basically did the same as @Topdownman and they came out ok, well, IMO

Agree with above they look mustard after being fettled.
At least on Simons car.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Sorry, I should have said "Readers ride" not build thread!

Here are the pics though;

The gap was filled with Tigerseal after they were glued on (with Tigerseal) and I painted the Tigerseal with touch up paint once it had dried but didnt lacquer it and it has been fine.

@ Topdownman

Thanks for the photos, starting to make some sense now. I have the same skirts and trying to work out how to fit them.
Do you have a photo of the finished skirt at the rear wheel arch, just to get an idea of what it will look like when complete?

cheers

I cant remember how I did it, but you have to put pressure on the skirts to press them onto the car while the Tigerseal sets. Its 24 hrs for full strength but you would want at least a few hours supported to lessen any gaps.

Heres how mine ended up. It was done a few years ago and no issues since fitting.

I bought some black plastic sheets off ebay to make my own "mudguards" for each end to keep some mud out and to hide the messy ends. Held on with generic trim fasteners, mostly onto the arch liner.

@Topdownman

Thanks for a great write up on fitting the skirts, you made it look doable even for me and great photos to show the different stages, now I have a clear idea of what I need to do  ;D

To the powers that be, I think Topdownman's write up should be added to the "How to" section as I am sure many others have had the same problem trying to find out the correct way to make them fit.

cheers

Looks great topmandown. May be of no use but in my days with Hyundai f2e,s the skirts had plastic pins into body fittings, so on removal would snap off. I found lots of silicon useful, a couple of ramps pushing onto the skirt and the (stick to anything ) duct tape which doesn't stretch pulling the skirts onto the sill which saved some unsightly screws except on the very ends, which in hindsight was for piece of mind. Served me well anyway 😊 Good luck and be back with some pics and product rating if you can 👍
