Hi
After getting done down the straights on track days by more powerful cars quite often, was just thinking a supercharger might make sense as I have already converted to a 2zz so v6, k20 etc would seem a bit wasteful.

I have read a fair bit of info on this forum already, I see you can get a drive in out service from seven for about 5k but was wondering if anyone sold the kit separately as it might save a good bit of cash to do it myself, and any suppliers people might know?

Also wondering what peoples experiences are of tracking a rotrex 2zz, are they reliable? We tend to do 15 min stints at a time. I would be happy with 230-250 ish bp to not push it too much.

Suspired at you getting done often at track days in a mk3 2zz. The chassis more than makes up for the lack of HP in my experience, as you can really carry speed on exit. I don't often get overtaken on track, and when I do its mostly by full on race cars.

I also looked into supercharging but as the engine is rotated 180 degrees compared to the Celica and Corolla the SC kit is always situated at the back of the engine, therefore needs decent charge cooling and ever a meth kit to produce consistent power on track. I know a guy who tracks a Lotus Exige SC and he even says after 10 minutes you can feel the power dropping off due to excessive heat soak.

Think it would be better running a turbo given its ran off the exhaust, plus you'll get better gains and it will be cheaper.

Or run a set of slicks and watch your lap times reduce dramatically, the difference of slicks vs even a decent semi-slick on the MK3 is staggering. I get barley scrubbed in 15" slicks for £100 a pair, best bang for buck mod ever.

Unless you've talked to 7 lately I'd be surprised if that price is valid.
When I bought a rotrex maybe 3 years ago it was 1700 now I think they are 2400.
Talk to @KRAMSNEHPETS he has a fully built 2zz with rotrex.
Goes like stink.
For reliability I'd would keep it NA tbh.
Certainly avoid bouncing it off the limiter. Evidence on the Honda forums seen to point to them not liking it very much. Certainly they seem to have a higher failure rate strapped to a Honda engine than others.

Thanks for the opinions having worse reliability def puts me off going down this route. The 2zz is quicker than most modded mx5s, clio cup cars etc...its the 400 hp m3 type cars that blow us away on the straights. The braking and handling feels great and we def make time up there against the bigger cars.

Also used a trailer for last TD which made the day much easier and slicks would then become a viable option for us.

I paid 100 per tyre for yoko Ads so slicks and a spare set of wheels sounds like the best cost per speed plan. Where do you get the slicks from?

The 2zz compressor is shite.
A rotrex is a very different beast and with a charge cooler will give consistent intake temps.

There will always be something quicker in a straight line. For me the straights mean very little. Naturally you want to be as quick as you can on them but corners are where all the fun, talent and learning lie.

Id spend your money on tyres/suspension/braces etc and keep a decent level of reliabilty to actually enjoy your track days 😃

Add driving tuition to that list too. Not a 20m session but at least a half day.

Ive done poly bushing, front brace, roll bar, drop links, wishbones, hubs, callipers and ball joins and have had some coaching before covid stopped. Like I said it brakes and corners nicely I suppose you can always want more power once you get used to what you have.

Got any track day videos?

You soon get used to more power.
I've got around 280 hp and torque and it's not until other people giggle or scream that I remember how fast it is.

Decent mate, but there's time left in it for you. I managed a 1:13 at Blyton in mine for reference, and I'm still relatively new to TD's. There's more in it for me too.

Benlake

Yeah I think cld push the limits a little more. Im top one but me and my mate are very similar (same in go karts too!) interesting to see him using 3rd on twickers and me 2nd he carried more corner speed but I made it back on exit. Think bunga bunga and port froid cld be quicker, not tried using the kerbs too much maybe touching them a little bit would knock some time off.

My effort last time out running shot AR1's. Lots more time in it for next time running slicks and JDM ECU.

Looks a good track this, will add it to my list. Plus it has a corner called bunga bunga 😂

Benlake

Yeah cool corner and even better name :)

That looks a fine lap, you seem to carry more speed than us through most the corners. Next TD we booked is donnington on 2nd Aug looking forward to trying a different track out as only done blyton so far :)
