Hi,

I need to get some new rear tyres for my 2000 X-reg. I'm utterly clueless about tyres so i was hoping for a bit of advice. I don't race the car, but I do drive a couple of hundred miles down the M3 and M27 twice a week at the dead of night....

Not looking to break the bank, and to be honest, the finer points of performance would probably be lost on me. I need 205/50/15V. Any advice?

Thanks
Michael

I'm happy with my Toyo Proxes T1-R and they are a nice price.

I'd say the most important thing to do is have the same tyre on all 4 corners.

It's fair enough saying that you don't need the performance, but with budget tyres on a car like this, even they oldest of grannies will spin the car on a bend in the wet. for this time of year i'd definatly go for the Toyo's.

look at here: http://www.tyretraders.co.uk/
there is free delivery and it's £48.88 per tyre.

Thanks very much for the replies! If anyone is interested, I found the cheapest T1-Rs at £66 all in at http://www.eventmobiletyres.com/.

Unfortunately, noone has them in stock, and I need them fitted tomorrow  s:( :( s:(

Instead, I've gone for Toyo T1-Ss at £74 a pop, which is the punishment for doing things in a rush! Is there any real difference between Ss and Rs? The people I spoke to said that the tread pattern on the Rs meant that the tyres were quieter, but that was about it.

I thought the T1-S had been discontinued.  Is that not the case?

I enjoyed the T1-S on my 300zx and Lynn has them on her '2 at the moment and they're great.  Can't really compare to the R though as I've never had any.

Thanx Simon, I just spoke to Brian at Camskill, very helpful & ordered a couple of T1Rs & gave me a token discount for being a MR2ROC member  s;) ;) s;)

I know that there have been posts on this before, but I can't afford to change all 4 tyres right now, the fronts are only about 2000 miles old and I am just chaning the rears - is this likely to have any 'serious' handling issues ?

AND... Has anyone ever squeezed 2 tyres onto the passenger seat - I have no other way of getting them to the tyre fitters ?

There's no problem carrying four tyres to a fitters in a '2 (if no spare in the front). It's also possible to carry passenger + five wheels so long as they don't have tyres fitted.
