Removing Front Central Dashboard Vent?

My '99 Japanese import has metalic effect trim around the heating cotrols and the central air vents. Over time they have taken on a mottled effect probably because someone has spilt something on them or ust because of exposure to the sun. I'd quite like to try and respray them.

I can get the heating control surround off, but has anyone got any pointers about takiong out the vent surround? Can it be easily removed?

Any help appreciated.

It's all one piece and can't be easily removed - however, the aluminium dash trim most likely can be.
