Been a little while, and lost interest in the car over winter with it having little use.

With the weather starting to warm up a lately and the day getting longer, I got some Neox front shocks and bump stops from MR2BEN. I was suspecting the front right shock may be shot with the tyre rubbing the arch only on that side, but also got some camber bolts to give the front wheels a little more angle just in case.

After a faff around with swapping everything out (first time doing anything suspension related), all went well in the end. Car no longer rubs, and handles great even without an alignment (I put camber to max setting on the bolts).

Got an MOT due next month, and insurance runs out in May, so probably be looking to sell very soon (unless the wife lets me have 2 project cars).  ;D

More welding and grinding has resulted in the following which whilst butt ugly is very strong and "oil tight" and I'm quite confident is sticking out at the required 30 degrees. Didn't get a photo of everything ground down before paint but it's all nice a clear.

Next up is the oil return from the turbo..

More words of encouragement:

These cars are totally worth it. I'm hoping to get a respray this year, and I'm sure that won't be the end of it. Like @MrChris said, keep persevering. You'll be glad you did.

So yesterday was an utterly horrible one in terms of progress with holes being drilled that were to large, work benches burning and just generally unsatisfactory progress.

Today I've tried a different pulse width, and I'm slowly recovering.

Yes it's very much over welded but I'm going to weld it then grind it down to what I want as that's what's working for me.

My car was in a very similar situation with brakes, rust etc. I'd say it's definitely worth it and I found most of the rust was just components rather than the chassis itself.

Thanks for the encouragement, i think you're right. I removed all of the body panels and tank yesterday and there is only slight rust to the chassis which was great news. An mot said that it had a hole in the sill, but this turned out to be the rear wing panel.i am now more optimistic, im going to tackle any rust and revamp the tank while its off and then the cylinder seals and then get the new HB cables on when they arrive.

Quote from: ty222 on March 13, 2024, 21:37This sounds like what happens, it never gets to the rock hard stage it get a little tension but looses it. I understand these things can happen with age but it's only 24 😂

Check your master cylinder seals.

It should go rock hard. If it does so, but doesn't stay hard, it's almost certainly your master cylinder seals.
