Hello Stu.

This must be a sign. @Joesson pointed me in the same direction on my sparkies thread.
5 year guarantee got be worth a pop. And a pair for less than I paid for 1.

Quote from: Nomad on Yesterday at 13:36Since then I had to replace a caliper on my other Toyota (Avensis) and I went for BUDWEG from AUTODOC. I was very impressed with the quality considering I only paid £40 once the core unit was returned.
On the 2, I went for 2x budwegs, from brakes international. Way more than £40 each. Double at least.
And handbrake wise not lasted 20,000 miles.

All the good oils are in the same price range.  Hey, you don't buy oil that often!!!

That's some price change.  :o

I'm loathe to recommend previous oils I've used, in case may have gone the same way.

I bought mine from eBay. A Mk1 owner told me they'd been using them for years on a number of cars (Mk1s are unobtanium, but can be modified to use Mk3). It seems most Mk1 owners use them too.

I've had them on the car for a year. I was wary to start with (brakes obviously being important), but they looked the same as the ones they replaced.

EDIT to add, I wasn't able to do these myself as I don't currently have anywhere suitable to work. My mechanic fitted them and he seemed happy with their quality.

I've got the same on my MR2. 02 plate but 2001 production. The guy at GSF told me it used to take a long time for the cars built in Japan to reach UK.

Hi all,

I own two Toyotas, MR2 and Avensis, both with 1zz-fe engines. Oil changes are carried out every 5-6k miles. (Avensis works out twice a year due to the milage and MR2 only once a year).

I've been using PETRONAS Syntium 3000 FR 5W-30 Fully Synthetic engine oils for years on my Avensis and now that I own a MR2 it gets it too.

The problem now is that the PETRONAS oil has doubled in price in the last months (From £26 to £51) for 5 ltr.

I don't want to compromise on quality of oil and the frequency of oil change intervals but equally it is getting a little bit expensive to stick with this brand.

Are there any good alternatives?

I had to replace the LHR brake calliper a couple of months ago in preparation for MOT.
I bought a rebuilt unit form the company APEC on ebay. The quality was bad, the dust seal was pinched and didn't seat correctly around the piston. It was returned for a refund.

Then I bought one from GSF, original price £215 but with all discounts applied and the core unit returned I ended up paying £130. The company was BENDIX (never heard of them before). The quality of the rebuilt unit was much better than from APEC.

Since then I had to replace a caliper on my other Toyota (Avensis) and I went for BUDWEG from AUTODOC. I was very impressed with the quality considering I only paid £40 once the core unit was returned.

We are running 16" front and rear, and tire selection in the US is terrible in 16".  The wheels are 16x7, tires are 195/45-16 F and 205/45-16 R
