Title: 20,000 Mile Service
Post by: Anonymous on March 11, 2004, 19:36
Folks,

Had the 20k mile service done at Toyota World Newport today.

Cost £168 but from the report they don't seem to have changed the air filter or brake fluid.

Any thoughts (and how does the price compare   s:? :? s:?   )

air filter I beleive is a check only.

brake fluid is a required change but I have yet to find a dealer that quotes it as part of the price. Because they want another £200 worth of labour to do it and that makes the price look silly.

they will in theory do a water content check on it though.

Price is approx what I paid and the best I was quoted so you did good.

I'd suggest getting a local garage to do teh brake fluid as the silly Toyota lot wby stamping yor service book are actually saying they did it. (since it's required) in which case who cares where you really have it done.

The brake fluid change is not mileage dependant but time dependant. i.e. evry 2 years regardless of mileage. Mine wasn't done until the 30,000 mile service...

interesting I'm sure my manual says mileage dependant, I'll take a look.

Brake fluid deteriates over time not like other fluids over specific mileages I believe; hygroscopic   s:lol:  s:lol:

also true, but the amount of heat you put into it, affects this as well, hence the mileage issue.
