Title: Engine management light + Twin exit at last!!
Post by: Anonymous on July 7, 2003, 09:42
Hi.

Got my Remus fitted this weekend... and absolutely fantastic it is too!! I can't believe I put it off for so long.. the twin exit should be a compulsory purchase for everyone!!    s:D :D s:D

Anyway.. to put a dampener on my enthusiasm, about 100 miles after fitting, the engine management light came on.. and now won't go off!

Car seems to be running fine... but I dropped it off this morning at the dealer to get it sorted.. can anyone hazard a guess as to what it can be?

I noticed that when fitting the exhaust they disconnect the O2 sensor(?) from the downpipe? It plugs in behind the nearside rear light cluster, but looks to have been properly reconnected.. hmm.

Rather disappointing!

Tim.

I'd say its summit to do with the EGR Valve, when i had mine fitted (TTE) i had the same problem.

Also they soemtimes don;t put the O2 sensor back on as you say!

Cheers!

Glad I'm not the only one... but what's an EGR valve?! You'd think I'd be up on my acronyms, working in IT!   s:lol:  s:lol:

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve.

How much for the Remus?
Where from?
Did they fit it for you or was shipment via hauliers and you arranged the fitting? I presume that it was the exhaust dealer you took it back to.

I am thinking of using Haryward & Scott. Maybe a more specialist outfit will have greater knowledge and skill. Grant doesn't appear to have suffered from the problem that you and "bigun007" have encountered.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to clear codes; Looks like we're going to have to have a few more PocketLoggers in the country to ship out to people! Can't really help, but does sound like they could have possibly damaged your third O2 - they're quite delicate apparently. When you get the diagnostic code read, ask what the number is.

Hi there.

The Remus came from Elite in Rainham (a 170 mile round trip for me!) and was £382.

I rang last week and reserved (with a deposit) the only one they had in stock, then it's kind of first come first served for fitting when you get there. They were very good however, and got around to it pretty quickly... thoroughly recommended!

I watched them do most of the work, and they seemed very careful, so not sure what's going on with the check engine light!

I did have a new downpipe fitted under warranty a couple of weeks ago though.. is this the bit with the CAT in it that has to be taken off to replace the stock exhaust?!

In this case, it could be this new part which has failed.. but I haven't really examined the exhaust system in great detail, it all looks like some kind of intestine all coiled up!

I'll ask for the code when I get it back tonight.. IF I get it back later! Oh, and it's now at my local Mr.T, not Elite!

Tim.

If your missing your cat, then that could be the problem.

They put the CAT bit back on afterwards, it just has to be removed to fit the main silencer part up underneath!

Got the results back from the garage.. it was the 3rd O2 sensor, apparently it's fine to carry on driving with the warning light on for another couple of weeks until my 40k service... phew!

I'm assuming it's going to be fixed under warranty, even though the exhaust was fitted by someone else... no mention has been made of payment yet... excellent!
