Title: Eml problem
Post by: Paulm280885 on October 23, 2013, 19:49
Hey guys I fitted Nathan ultimate gear bushings today went well apart from the few cuts and bruises problem is my eml has come knw is it because I disconnected the sensor on the air intake and forgot to reconnect before starting her up do I need to disconnect batt to reset ecu ?

Most very likely. Disconnect the batt for a bit and then reconnect and everything should be good

Ok thanks mate I'll do that tomoz

I can reset it for you on Sat, but if you started it with the MAF sensor disconnected this will definitely put the EML on.

Yeah I did start it then it cut out and I realised it was connected

Hey guys
Did a 20 mile trip over to my pals today and on the way back my eml cam on again what do you think it could be latest mods
New exhaust with sports cat
Markiii pipe
Nathan gear bushings
And also had to disconnect the maf to install the gear bushing  but I've since disconnected the batt to reset ecu what got rid of the light but knw it back
Any help please guys .

Rather than randomly guessing, the easiest answer is -  l viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16017 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16017) l    s:D :D s:D
(it's definitely not the gear bushings though)

Ok thanks mate bought one last night of ebay. No problems with the car running like a dream

Ill put money its the sports cat if youve had no spacer put in between the O2 sensor.

Failing that its likely to be a failed O2 sensor. You really need to get the code read

Cheers Nath I'm thinking it's the sports cat aswell code reader should be here tomoz do you think it's ok to drive it ?

So my reader came today not to sure how it works but when I connect it and go into dtc it's says no codes yesterday I cleaned my maf and reset my ecu and the eml went and has not come back yet is this why it says no Codes ?

And Nathan what does the spacer look like ?

Disconnecting the battery clears the codes. Have a look at pending codes to see if anything is logged there.

How do I access pending codes mate ?

On the OBD reader software, you often get the option to read logged fault codes and a separate option to read pending codes. Pending codes are codes where there is a logged fault that needs to occur a number of times before am EML comes on.

Hi Chris
Should the mil light be on or off ? And should the cat be ready or not ready ?

Quote from: "Paulm280885"Hi Chris

Pending codes are logged faults that may be one off events. An example would be a catalyst below efficiency code. One occurrence would show a pending code, but would not trigger an EML. Maybe after two or three more occurrences, the EML would come on. Similarly, of you have two or three more start and run cycles without recurrence of the fault, it may be removed from the pending codes list.

Not sure what you mean by the second question?

Chris

When you go into the I/m menu it has various component of car I.e misfire, cat , 02 sensor etc most say ready but the cat and 1 other says not ready what does this mean ? Does the car have to be up temp for cat to be ready ?
Thanks Chris

Not sure to be honest, I use Torque app and have not noticed that message. I will have a look next time I run the car (which may be some time as I am up to my neck in 7 day work at the moment).

The obdii sensor list is generic, usually not ready means the system doesn't have that sensor or test. For example some cars have catalyst heating, the test is still there but the mr2 doesn't do it so it comes up either not ready or unsupported depending on the software of the code reader.

Hi
Plug the reader in this morning and it's showing a pending code of po136 which is 02 sensor circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor2) what is that and where is it

I  think that is the post cat  sensor. A  search of the forum would confirm it.
Title: Re: Eml problem
Post by: andyhull on November 2, 2013, 20:33
yup its the post cat sensor,, either replace with genuine denso or do the resistor fix
Title: Re: Eml problem
Post by: Andys-N20 on November 2, 2013, 21:12
P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) or as said above the post act one.
If in doubt one way to prove the heater circuit with a multi-meter/ohm-meter is to unplug the sensor. Take a look at the wires and there will be two the same colour (colour varies by brand) put the meter across these two wires and check the resistance. You are looking for about 12 ohms... If its burned out you will get an infinite reading.

Had a new exhaust and sports cat fitted recently could this be the cause
Title: Re: Eml problem
Post by: Wabbitkilla on November 2, 2013, 21:20
P0136 cannot be fixed with a resistor, it requires a replacement sensor. P0141 is the heater circuit failure which can be fixed with a resistor and checked as per the above post. As the sensors get older they get fragile, just removing them from one exhaust and fitting to another can result in failure.

Go to sparkplugs.co.uk and buy a new Denso sensor to replace it.

denso denso denso,,,,,, denso cost mucho dinero mate,   now I am not totally convinced that all us 2 owners should always use denso replacement parts, especially for something such as a post cat sensor
i have used a NON denso Maf, and its working perfect,,,, surely someone has tried non denso post cat o2 sensors ?
well if mine goes i for one will be trying one

Yes its likely that it was on its way out anyway.

to andyhull. I use NGK / NTK for my plugs and O2's, they are OEM quality.
One on amazon for £51.60

Denso costs about the same as NGK, horses for courses buy what you like but I've always found the Denso ones .... reliable.
Just don't bother with second hand ones, they're likely to go faulty quicker in my experience.
You were lucky with your MAF, I've seen plenty of cheap ebay ones be useless.
AS for Denso costing mucho dinero, I remember the days when they were over £120, nowadays they're under £60 so quality is worth it.
You want a cheap car go get a Yaris.

You really need a O2 socket to get it off.
22mm. with a cut out for the wire. This is one I have:

Bargain, but maybe you have import tax to pay?

s:D :D s:D

There are some cheaper O2 sensors on flebay... not much cheaper either, and they are so bad quality the only guarantee that comes with them is that they are guaranteed to break within a year lol. Thats why they only have 3 - 6 months guarantee on them.

strange you said that lol cos it appears that plenty of parts from the mk1 yaris are the same as the roadster !!!!!!
look no one is saying that denso is poor or not worth the cash, but what im saying is there are other makers of sensors, and if they give a guarentee and cheaper then its worth a punt on areas that are not critical, such as postcat o2.
Speaking of yaris , I wonder how many garages or repair outfits, knew about the front wishbone and ball joint being the same as the 2 ??  well £500 for both sides on the 2 ( standard parts ) compared to £140 on the yaris ??
Makes sense to try things out dont you think

I may well be wrong, but I think you will find that Denso are the OEM supplier to Toyota.

I hope I don't have import tax just spend like £400 with them

I think so. Just rebranded them specifically for Toyota. Either way denso and ntk are both respected brands.
I am 95% sure you have to pay import tax on goods. I had to when I shipped a Walker O2 sensor in from the state's. Gifts are tax exempt but monkeywrench would not send as a gift as it would be tax evasion.
I know the 2zz exhaust from monkeywrench comes with a hefty import tax bill.
A little Google'ing would confirm if you have to pay and how much.

You might get lucky on the import but unlikely especially with car parts. Oh and don't be fooled to see your parts arrive and nothing to pay. You'll often get a nice little invoice a few days later  s;) ;) s;)
