Hi all. silly question but I'm not spec wise nor mech minded . 1zz and 2zz ,firstly what does this mean ,secondly how do you tell what you have ?
Regards mark
The 1ZZ is the standard engine. The 2ZZ is a more powerful engine from other Mr T models but not available in the MR2.
You would know if you had a 2ZZ one as the seller would have wanted more money for it!
Wikipedia is good on this:

Answer appreciated, knowlege expanded . Many thanks , Mark
Im sure you have the 1zz but just for reference on the 2zz if you look near where the belts are located there will be cast into the aluminum cylinder head "Yamaha" as Yamaha was involved in the engineering.
The 1zz will have a cast in the aluminum wich says "boring economy motor" hahaha
01' MR2 K20 swap, crazy mods to come
If you have a 2ZZ engine it sounds like this from 6,000-8,000 rpm:

(Minus the Canadian).
If you have a 1ZZ, it just sounds like rods and pistons sprinkling themselves all over the road behind you from 6,000-8,000 rpm.
Lightheartedness appreciated guys .
